Another Rainbow of Leaves

On Tuesday, Josie, Zach, Micah G., and Noah were noticing the beautiful colors of the leaves that had fallen on the ground. After viewing a photo of the rainbow of leaves that Molly had created, the children decided to start collecting their own leaves! Together, they collected leaves from the playground and around the school in a bucket.

We then went inside where the children sorted the leaves by color. They decided to group together the red leaves, yellow leaves, and brown leaves.

They asked to see Molly's photo again and noticed they her rainbow was in a straight line. They then began to rearrange the leaves to create a long rainbow. It is amazing to see how inspiring the beautiful leaves and the creations of our classmates can be to us!

Inspired by one another...

This week, Jacob, Eli, Dylan, Zack, and Hannah used the Kapla blocks from the manipulative table and a basket of cars to construct a race track on our morning meeting rug. At the start line they wrote the message "go" and at the finish line they wrote the message "stop." When Ezra, Max Goldberg, and Noah saw the race track, they were inspired to build their own track in the block area. In the Kohavim class, children are constantly inspiring each other, whether they are painting at the easel, pretending, drawing, or when building. Inspiration is just one way the children in Kohaivm learning from each other. What are some ways your children inspire you?

How to draw Captain America and the Hulk

In the Kohavim class, children have been inspiring one another with things they know how to do. Today, Jacob was drawing superheroes in the communications center. Zack noticed and was eager to find out how to draw Captain America and the Hulk. Jacob modeled how to draw them while dictating directions.

How to draw Captain America:
"Make his head. A circle. Draw a square, his shirt. Rectangles for the arms. A circle for the shield. Draw his hands. Draw a rectangle and stripes for the belt. 2 rectangles for the legs. Draw the feet."

How to draw the Hulk:

"Draw a circle for his head. Draw mad eyes. Black hair. Draw a square for his body.  Draw purple rectangles for his legs. Green feet. Green arms. Draw muscles on his body."

We are so excited to see what the children will show us "how to" do tomorrow!

Welcome to our Restaurant!

Hannah opened a restaurant in the Kohavim classroom on Tuesday. She decided she would be the chef and she would serve Chinese food. After creating her menu, she prepared her disguise. She selected a fabric for her apron and connected pieces of construction paper for her chef hat. When Hannah started to put on her apron, Lily quickly offered to help her secure the fabric in the back with a clothespin. As Hannah began to invite customers to eat in her restaurant, the Kohavim children were instantly inspired. Dylan and Noah set the table and put out the menu Hannah had made. Next, Dylan, Noah, Eli, and Max Greenstein all made chef hats! They closely examined Hannah's hat to discover she used two pieces of construction paper that she stapled together. It took team work to put the chef hats together, as children tested out the hats to make sure they fit before attaching the paper and helping one another to staple the paper together. I wonder what will be cooking in the Kohavim restaurant tomorrow!
