"There's A Dinosaur Knocking at my Door.."

Dinosaurs were the main attraction on our rug during free play today. The children had a wonderful time exploring our prehistoric friends, asking their species name and what each dinosaur likes to eat. We, as teachers, like to ask the children similar questions. We asked which dinosaurs could be friends, and Abby selected a pair and had one dinosaur give the other a piggy back ride while singing "There's a dinosaur knocking at my door, knocking 1, 2, 3 one, two, three!" while engaging in pretend play with the plastic figures. It was delightful! Also, new toys are always exciting and tend to gather a lot of friends together. Enjoy the photos!

A Step by Step of our Volcano!

To end our long study on dinosaurs, the Haifa class took a look at volcanoes! One theory as to why the dinosaurs went extinct is that a volcano erupted, causing the food to die, and consequently, the dinosaurs. So what better way to study volcanoes than to make one ourselves!! Before Thanksgiving, we made the volcano out of paper mache, as Alana is demonstrating below.

The volcano was finally dry after our break, and we were able to explode the volcano outside in the gorgeous weather. After coloring the vinegar with red and orange watercolor, the Haifa class trooped downstairs to get front row seats to the explosion.

We even invited our Kohavim friends to join in the fun. We all watched from a safe distance to see what happens when baking soda and vinegar combine!! We got a great show and all escaped unharmed from flowing lava!

Meet Haifa's Newest Students!

Meet Bronotasaurus, Stegasaurus, T-Rex, and Triceratops, Haifa's newest addition to circle!! We have spent the last few weeks talking and learning about dinosaurs, transforming our learning space into a dinosaur classroom, and reading all about dinosaurs. Sauci and I realized yesterday that even though we talk about them all the time, our students don't know the names of the dinosaurs!! So this morning, we introduced our students to four popular dinosaurs. They are going to be around our classroom and in the sensory table, so now we have some names to go along with the dinosaurs we are learning about!!
