Sometimes you can't beat old fashioned

The children really enjoyed playing penny hockey today. No batteries or electronics involved at all. Just wood and a penny. The goal was to flick the penny into the other person's hole. Some of the children thought they should switch turns after one flick, and others thought after 3 flicks. The game required fine motor skills, eye hand coordination, attention, and cooperation. The result was good ol' fashion fun!

A special guest in the Kohavim classroom

Thank you Rick for coming in to celebrate Hadley's birthday with us. It's always such a treat when a parent or special guest joins us in the classroom. Your reading of Beauty and the Beast certainly held their interest. We look forward to your coming in again in the spring around Marathon time. In the meantime, keep up the training!

Once again the Kohavim children were actively engaged in a game of Uno. Oliver played a card that made Sam very happy, and he thanked him for it. Oliver responded by saying: "I'll do that for you anytime Sam." My heart melted...

Collaborative Art

Over the course of just a few minutes this morning, there were at least five different configurations of young artists at the easel. Whether working alone or as a team, the Rainbows are eager to express themselves through drawing. Working at the easel rather than on a table, the children strengthen the muscles in their shoulders as they draw.

A New Medium for the Rainbows

No, it's not colorful packing foam. It's not made from cereal and melted marshmallows. It's Floam! Floam is a substance made of tiny sticky spheres you can shape, squeeze, sculpt, slice, and squish. Although the bits of floam are held together by something sticky, it doesn't leave a sticky feeling on your hands after you touch it. The Rainbows had fun exploring this new artistic medium as they developed their fine motor skills.

Lily is our lucky girl this week! After Wallaby's crazy cold weekend at Eli's, he is going to rest up for a weekend with Lily. She is going to lead us around school and help out at circle this week!!

If You Can't Beat Them, Join Them!

Puzzles have become a staple in our classroom. Each day there are those that want to do puzzles, and then there are those that are occasional puzzlers. The Haifa kids have almost gone through all of the puzzles at the children's center! The puzzles have even begun to stump Sauci and myself and the kids have become the ones helping us!
