Preparing for our Trip!

There was a lot to do today in preparation for our trip to Israel!  Hannah made wings for the plane, Jacob created a map to get to Israel,  taped the plane to the seats of our plane, finished our flags,  made seats belts, and made sure that we had our passports and tickets ready to go! 
 

Continuing with Michaelangelo

As we showed you yesterday, the Haifa children have been working on their own version of the Sistine Chapel, which was originally created in Italy by Michaelangelo. While we are not painting on the ceiling per se, we have been practicing what it would have been like to paint on our backs. We have used several different medium to give a wide array of experiences. Today we used paint, and the students were dodging paint drips while painting!

At the art center we decided to capitalize on another area that Michaelangelo is known for: sculpture. We provided the children with some homemade clay, and allowed them to make creations with the clay and other materials in the classroom. The children worked diligently on their sculptures, and were so proud of their work that they asked the Levana class to come in for a showing before they made their way outside! We are so lucky to have such a community that is so supportive and positive!

Into the Woods...

The Rainbow class took a hike in the woods with their focusers today.  The kids noticed that things had changed with the beginning of spring.  They discovered some white flowers, a purple flower, some moss, a fallen tree, and a number of great big stumps.  They saw fresh, new leaves on the branches that were bare just a few weeks ago.  Everyone seemed to enjoy exploring. Success!

Today we saw daring, strength, and some great big smiles as Molly experimented at the monkey bars.  One of the Unicorn children was demonstrating her technique for grasping the first rung, swinging her legs up and into the air, and bringing her feet back down on the platform.  Molly watched a few times and agreed to try it with a teacher as her "spotter".  Molly tried a number of times with just the tiniest bit of support from her teacher until...voila: Molly did it herself.  What a delight it was for Molly to see what she could do!  She surprised her Unicorn friend who was quite impressed to see what a determined three year old can do.

Did you see the paper today?

Today we had a visit with Grayden's parents: Melissa and Peter Loeb.  They came to help us celebrate Grayden's birthday.  Tomorrow Grayden will be three years old.  We started the fun a bit early.  Grayden's mom read us one of Grayden's favorite bedtime stories.  It was The Paperboy by Dav Pilkey which is a wonderful story with some gorgeous illustrations.  As you can see in the photographs, we had a few laughs as we followed along with the paperboy on his early morning travels.  

Grayden's family is donating a copy of The Paperboy for us to enjoy anytime we would like in our classroom.  Here is a big THANK YOU from the Rainbow class.
