Today's rain posed an interesting problem for Sauci and myself. We had our children inside all day as opposed to going outside in the morning as usual, and we had to decide how to change up our routine so that we didn't bore the children. We decided that after circle, we were going to split the class in half. Half of our children would go on an art walk around the building, while the other half would stay in the classroom and have snack all together.
Sauci took the children on the art walk around the building. They had the chance to stop and look at all of the beautiful artwork around the building that we otherwise walk by. They were able to stop and look at the colors, feel the textures, and enjoy the lovely building that we have at our fingertips.
Back in the classroom, we all decided to smush around a table and have snack all together. We put on some calming piano music, and had pretzels and raspberries. Not everyone liked or had tried raspberries before, and the children were very supportive to those that tried them for the first time. Even though it was tight quarters, the children really enjoyed having the closeness with their classmates and this calm, quiet time with a smaller group than usual.

Eli told me about your art walk, and I was wondering how you managed to get 16 kids around the building. Great idea to try small groups!
ReplyDeleteAlli loved the art walk. We went on one in our house too!
ReplyDeleteAll of the children enjoyed the art walk. We are very fortunate to go to school in a place where there is so much art to admire and learn about.
