Challah with color!

Well we went out in style! We made the most colorful and delicious challah in town! Even the children that usually don't like to knead and braid their own challah, joined in on the fun today!

Shabbat Shalom!

Yarok Penny Drive!

Throughout the summer everyone brought in pennies for the penny drive! On Wednesday, we finally got to count how many pennies we all collected! It is a fun and educational experience to have the children guess how many pennies they thought we collected and then together we counted and saw who was close! Estimation and number sense are   good to start to develop at a young age and are concepts that will be further developed throughout their early school years. Additionally, it allowed us to talk about coins and how much they are each worth.
Thank you to everyone for contributing to an educational experience as well as something for a good cause :)

Also, thank you for a wonderful summer! I enjoyed getting to know all of you and your wonderful kids!

Total we collected almost $5.00!

Friendly kind behavior!

All summer long Noah has reached out to Alex. He seemed to take a liking to him right away. Often Noah asked Alex if he could push him on the swing, or to go on the monkey bars with him. Noah can do the monkey bars independently and Alex needs help. Noah asked me lots of questions about Alex throughout the summer like..."Does Alex like the beach? " "How did Alex learn to ride a scooter?" Noah offered to get Alex a drink of water many times. When Noah noticed Alex was waiting for a turn on a swing, Noah would get off the swing to give Alex a turn without being asked.

Noah thanks for being such a good role model and reaching out to Alex with such friendly behavior. We appreciate you!

Moon Doctors

On Monday Charlotte, Nicolas, Molly, Noah, Avi ,Adam and I all played doctor. I was the patient and all of the children were the doctors. Molly and Charlotte were the drivers that took us all the way to the moon to see the moon doctor. The moon doctor was the only doctor that could make me feel all better.

Everyone worked together and problem solved to help their patient get better! First it was a shot, in the arm and leg, then they tried medicine. The game lasted for quite sometime ,and the children played and worked well together!

Bagel Faces!

The entire children's center made edible bagel faces today! First we had a short discussion about how we all have some many different feelings. Sometimes we feel happy, sad, mad, surprised, excited... We then asked the children to tell us how they were feeling today and to create a face on the bagel that shows us how they are feeling ,happy, excited etc.

Then the children had the opportunity to make a bagel face with cucumbers, peppers, raisins and cream cheese or jelly.

How are you feeling today?

To the Dump!

Written by our "Garbage Man" Josh Green

"Yesterday we went to the dump. First we got all the tires from the playground and put them in trash bags. Then we put them in my mom's car. Then we drove to leave Rosie's casseroles and then left the tires at the dump.

I am almost four tires tall. I was helping at the playground and at the dump. The dump smells. It smells like trash. Our hands got a lot dirty."

Inside or outside!

The vote is in, peekaboo is our all time favorite game to play! On the playground, in a box, in the bathroom, the Kahol children really like to play "peekaboo I see you"!

Water play and watermelon in the summer...It does not get better than that! Bailey, Grace and Hannah enjoyed playing in the water today! Alex passed on the water play but joined the girls for some delicious, finger licking good watermelon!

Monday, Monday...

What a great start to the week! The weather outside was fantastic! Everyone was a little tired this morning and got off to a slow start. As the day went on,we all picked up the pace and got into the swing of things. The day seemed to fly by!

Bailey and Kayley blew bubbles, Isabel and Ellen took turns pushing Alex on the swing and Cody spent time with Isabel baking in the playground kitchen!

The Counselor of the Day is...

Jesse!!!!!! Last Friday Jesse had that Shabbat spirit! She actually wore her bathing suit and went into the pool for a quick dip with the children! I don't know who had more fun splashing and playing in the pool, Jesse or the children! Way to go Jesse!

You've got mail!

While playing in the classroom last week, Josh explained that he wanted to write a letter and put it in the mail. This reminded Jesse that there was a mailbox in storage. Together, the quickly pulled it out and brought it into the classroom. Josh immediately got work writing and drawing messages which he would place in envelopes and seal closed. He would then drop the letter into the mailbox. The children noticed what Josh was doing and could not wait to join in. They all gathered around the table to create some mail. They then took turns putting mail in the mailbox, taking it out, and delivering it! Thanks to Josh for inspiring some amazing dramatic play and a wonderful literacy opportunity!

We LOVE bubbles!

Bubbles, bubbles everywhere... even in the pool!
Last Wednesday, we had such a blast blowing bubbles, swimming in bubbles, and even creating art with bubbles! Below are some action photos of the Adom children getting their bubble play on!

Sink or Float?

Last week, we filled the sensory table with water and put out many different materials on a nearby table. There were wooden blocks, straws, foam blocks, paintbrushes, and stones. All of these materials, the water, and one question provoked lots of experimentation: Will the material sink or float?

The children explained that when something floats "it stays at the top" and when something sinks "it goes under the water." With these definitions, the children began experimenting. They then recorded which items sank and which floated. When your child is playing in the tub or even in the sink, you might want to experiment and find out what you can get to sink or float!

Rosie and Abby cool off by splashing some water on themselves.

Travis flies down the famous TBSCC waterslide.

Hayley and Ellen cool off in the community room while Dancing Nancy pays a surprise visit!

Yarok children get ready for lunch in the air conditioned Garden Club Room.

Painting with frozen paint!

Kayla ,Hannah and Grace enjoyed painting with frozen paint on a stick. Kayla painted until the paint cube melted! Hannah drew a big circle on her paper and proceeded to color it in, first with the red, then the blue and last the white.

It's so simple and lots of fun! Try it at home with the whole family!
