"Yesterday we went to the dump. First we got all the tires from the playground and put them in trash bags. Then we put them in my mom's car. Then we drove to leave Rosie's casseroles and then left the tires at the dump.
I am almost four tires tall. I was helping at the playground and at the dump. The dump smells. It smells like trash. Our hands got a lot dirty."
The campers in Adom have really been enjoying singing along with Kaileigh, our assistant counselor. Have we mentioned that Kaileigh is an opera singer? We have been having so much fun with this. Ben remarked today "I am singing with my throat, not my stomach." as Kaileigh has been teaching us to breath using our stomach to achieve a richer quality in our voices! Today Kaileigh surprised us by bringing in her ukulele. The Adom girls joined us in Simon Hall for a wonderful sing-along! Thanks so much Kaileigh. We are having a wonderful time with you!
The Adom boys finished planting the basil in our school garden today. Last week Maria had made rain barrels out of old juice containers. We have been watching to see if they are collecting rain. Today there was enough rain water collected in them to water the newly planted basil! We love this lesson in Tikkun Olam as we learn about water conservation. Thank you Maria!
A couple of days ago Lauri helped us hang our chrysalis in our butterfly house. Today we welcomed four beautiful new butterflies into our classroom. We have been very, very careful not to touch the butterfly house, and Josh got as close as he could to say hello to our latest addition to the Adom "hungry red monkey's" classroom. Josh W. told us we can release them as soon as we say a blessing. More to come.... a very exciting day, or as Josh G. said "The Best Day Ever!!! To be fair, Josh also said this last week when we were floating boats in the river the children dug in the ditch in the yard. Camp is a blast!
Today Adom's Adventure was a trip to the Fire Station across the street. We met two firefighters, both named Mike, who showed us so many pieces of equipment! We got to sit in the ladder truck (vs the water truck we also learned about), try on the hat, pull out the fire house, learn about the heavy suits firefighters wear to protect us, and appreciate just how difficult a firefighter's job is every day. None of the children could believe a firefighter has to put on such heavy gear even on a hot, hot day! While we were there calls were coming in, and the fire fighters told us every day it gets warmer they get more calls. People need help when it gets very hot outside. What a great adventure. We then came back to Camp and colored our new firefighter coloring books we received! Thanks Grayden, for the great field trip idea!! Our favorites included: Josh Green - Seeing everything that they use at the fire station Grayden - sitting in the ladder truck Josh W. - seeing the fire pole Ben - Seeing pipes and hose on the side of the fire engine Jacob - Seeing the ladder truck, hose, and water truck!
Today was "Bring Your Favorite Book to Camp Day". There was plenty of creative storytelling and illustrating as the children made books of their own. You can see how very important books are to the children and families at TBSCC by observing the comfort level and familiarity the children have with them.

Today we welcomed our new assistant teacher, Kaileigh. We thought it would be fun and informative if everyone shared something about themself at circle It was interesting to see what children chose to share, and just as interesting to see how attentive everyone was while we had this discussion. Sophie Sherman, Sophie Ganot and Rose had an enjoyable time making their challahs today. There was plenty of rolling, twisting and braiding the dough along with shared laughs among the children. Challahs were made in the shape of spring flowers and many other creative shapes
First you light the candles. Then you drink the wine. Then you bless the challah and it always tastes so fine. Adom Aleph and Adom Bet shared in the celebration of Shabbat. Rose and Grayden were our Shabbat Helpers. They did a fine job leading the group in lighting the candles, blessing the juice and challah. We always have a wonderful time when our classes get together.
With the excitement and fun of our Bike Rodeo this morning, we painted circles to create our own bicycle wheels. It will take several days this week to complete our bicycles.
