The vote is in, peekaboo is our all time favorite game to play! On the playground, in a box, in the bathroom, the Kahol children really like to play "peekaboo I see you"!

2013 TBSCC Carnival...

Due to the early morning clouds and drizzle the TBSCC 2013 Carnival was in the Summer Community Room. Everyone had a great time!

First we gave the children a quick tour of what booths were available and how things worked, then the fun began! A quick stop at the ticket booth, toss it, bowling, face painting, raisin spitting, refreshments/ snack,and last but not least the prizes! I don't know who enjoyed the Carnival more the children or the staff?

The photos say it all... Except the photo of Alex with his face in a plate? He is participating in the raisin spitting game. All we could find was seedless watermelon, so we improvised with raisins!
The children were asked to try to spit one raisin onto a white plate. Alex had a lot of success at this booth. His strategy was to kneel down to the ground and spit the raisins on the plate! Try it sometime, he makes it look easy!

Outdoor Classroom!

One thing is for sure the Kahol children are having a "grand ole time" on the TBSCC playground! The swings, water play, sandbox, and the slides are a few of their favorite activities! Today Alex spent time in the sandbox, on the swing and in the pool filling a buckets with sand and water! Cody enjoyed playing with Rachel in the house, and rode a car on the black top. Grace climbed up and down the swirly, twirly climber many times and walked along the balance beam. When she fell off she got right back on and continued to walk...toe, heel, toe, heel!

What's in the Box??

Some friends from the Tel Aviv class found a box today on the playground. The first decided to hit it with shovels but then one grabbed a marker and then soon, tons of kids were drawing and decorating the box on the playground! It was a fun spontaneous moment filled with colors and wonder as everyone was questioning what was in the box!?

Instrument fun

At the end of the day today we did a fun second circle activity where when the conductor lifted his or her arms everyone played their instrument and when his or her arms went down everyone ad to stop. It was a great opportunity for children to experiment with self-regulation while having a great time and getting to explore and play with different kinds of instruments. The conductor also had the option to point to certain kids to give them "solos" where everyone could hear what each interment sounded like. It was so fun to hear all the different sounds and we will have the interments in our room so that we can explore them for the rest of the week!

Let's have a sing-a-long with Julia!

Who wants to have a sing-a-long with Julia? The only response I heard was Me! Me!Me!... When it started to rain the Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Unicorn children gathered together for a sing-a-long with Julia. As we were all singing and enjoying the music I thought to myself, "We have got to do this more often!"

Laughter

Build it up, crash it down. A childhood classic. The laughter was contagious as this small group worked cooperatively together to play this simple game. Up and down, up and down. What fun it is to play even such a basic game when you are playing with classmates.

Jammin’ with Josh!

As many of you have already heard today was the first day that the Tel Aviv class had the opportunity to sing with Josh! Everyone was so excited to sing and everyone did a great job of singing, moving and shaking with Josh’s songs. Eli’s favorite song was the bubble gum song. He and Hannah giggled at every chorus. I’ve been working on the railroad was also a big hit. The class loved that they got a chnce to move around the room and they took turns being “the conductor” Thanks so much Josh for such a great time! I know the Tel Aviv class is looking forward to your next visit!

Bruce and Willaby Here...

Bruce and Willaby took time out of their busy day and dropped by for a short visit. They introduced themselves, chatted a bit, and sang some songs with us. Bruce (the shark) had us laughing up a storm as he told us a few stories about Dory and his dear friend Nemo. Suddenly the children came down with a case of "giggles"...They could not stop laughing! One thing is for sure every time Bruce and Willaby visit, the children are always wearing a big, bright smile! We can't wait until Bruce and Willaby visit us again!

Horray for Lunch Bunch!

Our first day of Lunch Bunch was busy! We all joined together for a quiet lunch full of great conversation, of course! Then we introduced "Piece Out Time"...Which is when the children have the opportunity to take out some quiet activities on the rug and at the tables. Then the children cleaned up and we had a "curriculum meeting". The children talked about what they wanted to do in Lunch Bunch this year. They came up with some great ideas and activities!

The following are a list of their thoughts/ideas so far:

-to make putty and play dough
-painting
-to make jewelry
-to make french toast, hot chocolate, pizza, smoothies, cookies, brownies, salad/people
-to play in the Community Room(with balls ,mats, slides etc.)
-play outside a lot
-juggling
-parachute play
-to play in the kitchen(Tel Aviv room)
-science stuff/experiments

The very last thing we did today was to go outside for some gross motor fun on the playground! I can't wait until tomorrrow!

One….Two…Three…GO!

Dylan, Eli and Jacob created a fantastic game while playing with colored scarves this morning. The three of them would split the scarves and yell, “One, two, three GO!” and then all throw the scarves in the air at the same time and then try to catch the scarves as they fell down. This game engaged all three boys and they shared the scarves and cooperated beautifully. After a while, Molly joined in, and the boys welcomed her into their colorful game. I am so pleased to see everyone playing well together and I am excited to watch friendships develop throughout our year together!

Riding Freestyle!

Leo enjoys riding freestyle on our TBSCC horses, he named Silver and Goldie. Leo can ride with his feet on the saddle, to the side of the saddle , standing on Silver's legs and backwards as well. Leo the cowboy seems to have no limits. Everyday he likes to try new moves. Go Leo go!

A day with Max!

Max is always wearing a great big smile! He seems to just go with the flow. Max usually stays until 2:00, and seems to enjoy every minute of the extended day program. When the children in the morning program leave for the day, the children staying change back into their bathing suits and then we go out to play. Max always feels free to ask if he can take an indoor toy outside to play. Often he asks to take out plastic animals (giraffe, lion, monkey), he also has asked for beads and pipe cleaners so he can make a bracelet. Max looks forward to eating a cold delicious popsicle everyday! A few times this week he had two 100% all juice pops. Wow!

"Willaby Wallaby Woo!"

"Willaby Wallaby" came in to sing with us today and boy did he make us laugh! That guy is a lot of fun!

Move, Play, and Laugh!

The children are always looking for different ways to move and challenge themselves on the playground. Last Friday I saw Sam Royal's head peaking out of the roof of the house on the playground. He saw me and said, "Lauri look at me!" I walked over and observed for a while. A group of children were all taking turns climbing and then lifting their bodies up high enough for them to stick their head through the roof of the house. Not an easy task at all! It take a lot of upper body strength to hold yourself up...Similar to a chin-up exercise. They all were so thrilled with themselves as you can see in the photos!

Oh yes by the way, I told the children that this climbing activity is a great idea but it needs to be supervised by a teacher so everyone stays safe. The children agreed!

Mr. Sun was out Today!

Lunch Bunch was very busy from start to finish. As always chatting with friends at lunch is something both the teachers and children look forward to. "Peace Out" time was spent building with magnatiles, writing in journals and playing/building a road with small blocks and cars. Outside time was extra special today because "Mr. Sun" joined us! Finally some Spring weather! The children enjoyed challenging themselves as they climbed up the slide in new and different ways. Ellen organized a group of children to go behind the fence to gather up playground toys and garbage. What a fun day!
