Summer Fun!

It sure was the day to play with water! The staff filled the pool this morning with soapy water and when Hannah arrived she suggested that we add purple water colors. Instantly the pool water turned purple!
The water slide was a big hit as always!
The children attached two long clear plastic tubes to the water wall and experimented with the flow of the water! Fun was had by all!

Red, White and Blue Pancakes?

That's right the red were strawberries, the blue were (blueberries of course) and the white simply... a plain pancake!
We made pancakes for the entire Children's Center! They were delicious!

It's a hit!

From the cool breeze to the bright shinning sun, to day was a picture perfect day for our 1st ever Summer Program Bike Rodeo!  The children took over the parking lot bicycling, scooting, and pushing!  Along with the rodeo, there was also bicycle decorations to be made, washing to be done and snack to be had for all!  It was a very successful first bike rodeo and we are all eagerly awaiting the next!

Picnic Lunch

It was such a beautiful day on Monday that Team Bet decided to spend the whole morning outside! It was great to play on the playground with our friends of all ages and so many great games were played with using our imaginations it seemed silly to head inside. At one point I asked Lizzie if she wanted to go in for lunch and she said, “nah, I want to stay outside for longer” so we decided to have a picnic! Lizzie picked a great spot on the sidewalk by the front door and we laid our towels out to enjoy a fun outdoor lunch together. Such a sun idea!

Hooray for the pool!

The children asked, "Where is the pool? You said the pool was going to be out today." " We thought it was not going to be warm enough for the pool today." Ellen was listening and responded with, "We have a new pool, let's go get it." Ellen and the children proceeded to open the pool and fill it up with water.
Olive thought the pool water was "burr" and Eli G sat down in the water and said, "I think it's just right!" All the children had lots of fun playing in the pool!

Outdoor classroom...Curiosity and Initiative!

The outdoors is such an interesting and dynamic environment that encourages children to engage in a continuous cycle of exploration! As you watch them, you can see how one experience leads to another; their curiosity prompts them to ask questions and their initiative leads them to investigate.
Today Hannah became very excited when she found a slug on the playground. Her excitement was contagious as her friends and classmates gathered around her to see and feel the wet slimy slug! The children all observed the slug for a while and decided to name it "Slimy the Slug".

Yummy Pizza!

Making pizza for lunch on the last day of Summer Fun was a big hit! The children spent a lot of time preparing the pizza dough. Then they used spoons to spread the sauce, and the finishing touch was sprinkling the cheese all over the pizza (some of which made it in to their mouth). Delicious!

Working at the car wash!

The children washed the cars, the walls, the tables, you name it we washed it! Everyone had their own style or way! Some children washed the cars while sitting and other preferred to stand. By the end of the day the playground was sparkling clean!

Face and Hand Painting

At summer fun today, the children had the option of having their face and/or hands decorated with a special face paint made from cold cream and food coloring. Rainbows, butterflies, and happy faces were everywhere.

How Refreshing

Check out how some of us kept cool today. There's nothing quite as refreshing as dumping a bucket of water over your head to stay cool in this summer heat . What fun!

Using Rollers to Paint

There are lots of materials we use to paint and create at our summer fun program. Here we see Lizzie and Nathan using rollers to make patterns across the paper.

It takes some thoughtful planning to create the design. The children are using their entire bodies, gripping the rollers with their palms and stretching their arms to push the rollers across the table.

Leo's younger brother Micah joined in the roller painting, mixing colors to create different shades of blue.

Can you see France?

When asked if she could see France, Olive answered happily, "No, I see cars."

The children are always so pleased and proud to see just how high they are able to climb. Often they remark that they are taller than the teachers. Each and every day they are building their confidence in their abilities to climb, swing, slide and run.

Taking care of our TBSCC babies!

The babies were in very good hands today. The children made sure the babies were clean as they all took a nice long bath. Lizzie went around and fed all the babies some warm milk and when they woke up from their nap, the babies went on the swings.
