Taking care of others!

Hayley was so kind and friendly to Alex on the playground today!  She saw Alex go over to the swing and asked him if she could push him.  Once Alex was in the swing Hayley was so happy to push Alex!  When Alex was finished with his turn on the swing he walked over to the curly climbing structure.  It was a busy place as the children had to wait in line to climb.  While Alex was waiting for his turn, Hayley kneeled down on the ground and asked Alex if he would like a turn to climb?  Alex nodded his head up and down.  When a space was available, Hayley helped a teacher spot Alex as he climbed.

We want to recognize Hayley's helpful, friendly, and kind behavior!  Thank you Hayley for reaching out to Alex today to give him a friendly helping hand!

Apple Tasting

The children had the opportunity to taste three types of apples, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, and Golden Delicious and then selected their favorite.  The results were recorded on a graph.

The children placed the appropriate sticker (red, green or yellow) onto the graph and a teacher  helped them write their name!  Even Lily's dog selected her favorite apple!  The best part was trying all the apples!  Yummy!!

Tomorrow at our morning meeting we will figure out ...Which is the most popular kind of apple?

A very special thanks  goes out to Charlotte Rosenberg for making the Apple Tasting Graph!

Taking care of our classroom together!

Last week we learned how to use the Adamah clean up necklaces! Here is how it works...
The children have the same job for an entire week. When the teachers ask the children to clean up the classroom, the children go over to their picture on the wall and place their necklace around their neck( their necklace is hanging below their picture). They are asked to look at the picture on their necklace and clean up that area of the classroom.

Our first Nature Walk!

Yesterday Adamah took their first Nature Walk together! Before we left TBS the children brainstormed things we might find on our walk( a shark, sticks, frogs). Once we reached our destination Gabi gave each child their own brown bag. We found sticks, leaves, stones, and acorns. No sharks and no frogs!

Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to explore the materials when we empty the bags into our sensory table!

Early morning Shabbat fun ...

Eli is busy preparing tea.
It is a very special day. It is Shabbat and we have our finest china out. Everyone is invited to celebrate for early morning tea. It was a wonderful time.
Adam and Olivia share tea, but oh no, it's empty!! What should we do??

No problem Olivia manages to pour some anyway.

2013 TBSCC Carnival...

Due to the early morning clouds and drizzle the TBSCC 2013 Carnival was in the Summer Community Room. Everyone had a great time!

First we gave the children a quick tour of what booths were available and how things worked, then the fun began! A quick stop at the ticket booth, toss it, bowling, face painting, raisin spitting, refreshments/ snack, and last but not least the prizes! I don't know who enjoyed the Carnival more the children or the staff?

The photos say it all... Except the photo of Alex with his face in a plate? He is participating in the raisin spitting game. All we could find was seedless watermelon, so we improvised with raisins!
The children were asked to try to spit one raisin onto a white plate. Alex had a lot of success at this booth. His strategy was to kneel down to the ground and spit the raisins on the plate! Try it sometime, he makes it look easy!

Preparing for the TBSCC Carnival!

The children had fun making the prizes for the carnival! They painted rocks and made bracelets with beads and pipe cleaners. Everyone will receive a prize at the end of the carnival!

Tomorrow we will turn our playground into a carnival! The booths will include...Toss It, Face Painting, Watermelon Spitting Seed Fun, Bowl It, Sock It. We will make and eat popcorn the old fashion way, with a real popcorn popper! For those of us that are thirsty at the carnival, we be serving a delicious refreshing fruit punch!

The Bike Rodeo...

The Bike Rodeo was a big hit once again! There were scooters, bikes, cars and even a lawn mower, believe it or not! That's right Cody brought his very own mower! But shortly after Cody arrived a school he had a change of heart, and really wanted to ride his own bike at the rodeo. So, Cody's mom was kind enough to go home to get it! Go Cody!

Alex brought his scooter to the 2013 TBSCC 2nd Bike Rodeo! He was like a "rock star " on his scooter! He rode around the course like a champ! Pushing his foot onto the pavement, weaving in and out and all about! Go Alex!

Music with Liz!

We a so lucky to have Liz sing with us everyday! Often Liz comes onto the playground with her guitar and leads us in song. The group gathers in the garden area where there are wooden benches. As the group sings together there is a warm feeling that permeates the air! You can't describe it, but you can feel it! It feels so good!!!!!

Red, white, and blue!

Hannah and Grace painted with frozen red, white and blue paint on popsicle sticks which was clearly lots of fun!!!! They enjoyed moving the frozen blocks of paint all over their paper as they held onto the stick with a firm grip.

Another option was to print with our feet onto a large piece mural paper! At first painting and printing with her feet was something that Hannah wanted to do...So Hannah painted the top of her foot, with the white paint. Then she had a change of heart and decided that painting with her feet was not for her, at that point in time! After Hannah washed her foot in the bucket of water, she joined Grace and who was painting with a big paint brush onto the foot mural!

The are many, many ways to explore with paint!!!

Our First Shabbat Together!

We made our own challah! Kneading and rolling the dough was one the best parts of the day!
Hannah said, "The dough is sticky and gooey "! Kayla said, "This is roll- poly!" Grace said, "This is sticky and cold.". After lunch the girls decorated a brown paper bag to place their challah in!

We said the blessings and enjoyed a little challah and juice with Jesse, Maria and Laura's class, and at the end of the day we went to the the Sanctuary to sing with Emily and the entire TBSCC!
It was so much fun celebrating Shabbat together!

Getting to know you!

Today the Kahol children spent time playing in the Yarok classroom! We had a ball! Alex and Bailey played in the water table. It was a bit of a reach to grab hold of the toys and water,so I spotted the children as the stood on a big wooden block.

Bailey spent a lot of time in the Dramatic Play Center exploring the materials, taking care of the babies, and sorting fruit. Baiely also liked pounding the purple play dough with a wooden hammer.

Alex joined Bailey, Ellen and Avi for a late morning snack in the Dramatic Play Center. They served fruit, fed the babies and talked on the phone! They also checked out the guy across the street mowing the lawn outside the classroom window! What a treat!

Alex was very interested in what was going on in the Art Center...Out on the table were big coffee filters, cups with a variety of water colors and eye droppers. My first thought was that the eyedroppers would be challenging for Alex so I gave him a paint brush. He dipped the brush in the water colors and then placed the brush on the filter. Alex repeatedly dipped the brush in the pink water colors and then moved the brush onto the filter. Then Alex put down the brush and picked up the eyedropper. I asked him if I could show him how to use it? He nodded up and down. At first I sang a short version of "Thumpkin". Highlighting that Pointer and Thumpkin squeeze the black part of the eyedropper. I demonstrated how Pointer and Thumpkin need to come together so the colored water goes up into the tube. Both Alex and I were surprised it worked he did it! He was so pleased with himself!

Story of Summer 2013 at TBSCC!

Parents I want to let you know my plan this summer...

I am going to put together a portfolio/scrapbook for the Kahol children! Throughout the summer I will gather work samples, blogs, photos, art, magical moments, and place them in a book for each child to take home at the end of the summer.

As we know the children love to bring home their finished art to show their family. I will let the children know that we are making a "special book" for them to take home at the end of the summer and some of their art samples will stay at school in their very own book/portfolio. I will invite the children to help choose photos and art samples to place in their portfolio. We will work on their book together!

When you have time feel free to look at your child's portfolio with them in the classroom! But can you please give us one more week to get the portfolios started! Thank you!

Adom Shabbat

Today two of the Adom groups joined together to share our Shabbat blessings. We felt a great sense of camp community as Tina lead this newly formed group in songs and blessings. What a great first week of camp, rain and all!

Kahol Bike Rodeo!

Bailey and Alex brought their bikes to school and could not wait to join the big kids at the Bike Rodeo! Alex made it quite clear at drop off that he wanted to reunite with his bike ASAP! Think about it from his perspective ,he brought his bike to school to ride but his bike was outside, and he was inside???

Harper greeted Bailey with open arms and pushed her around the parking lot! Alex spent his time observing the other bike riders, pushing himself with feet on his bike, as he held on to his handle bars with a firm grip. Needless to say Alex moved slow on his bike...so for a change of pace I asked him if he wanted me to push him for a while? He nodded his head ,then I suggested that he place his feet on his bike, so his feet won't get hurt. Alex found a comfortable place for his feet to rest and then I pushed Alex for a while!

Both Bailey and Alex seemed to really enjoy the Bike Rodeo! The Bike Rodeo was a big hit with the children and teachers!
