Taking care of our classroom together!

Last week we learned how to use the Adamah clean up necklaces! Here is how it works...
The children have the same job for an entire week. When the teachers ask the children to clean up the classroom, the children go over to their picture on the wall and place their necklace around their neck( their necklace is hanging below their picture). They are asked to look at the picture on their necklace and clean up that area of the classroom.

How Do We Take Care Of Our Markers?

Today we had a lot of markers on the playground! They were fun to color with and we hope that we can keep coloring with them thought the year. The kids who were coloring all barnstormed ways how we can take care of our markers at school!

Josie: "Closing the caps and letting them not dry out"

Such great suggestions! One of my favorite things about this conversation is that the kids from THREE different classes were coloring together and all knew how important it was to take care of our supplies.

clean up clean up

Everybody clean up!  Bet you didn't know they could do this...

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub...

With the Shabbat shindig coming, the children got out the sponges and got cleaning! They used shaving cream to scrub the tables and then wiped them down with water and sponges. At the easel the children used spray bottles and sponges to polish the easel. Washing the easel and tables are one way the children help to take care of our environment. We can't wait for our Kohavim families to come visit tomorrow and see our sparkling classroom!

Who put the groceries away?

At the children's center we are always looking for ways the kids can develop independence, build a sense of responsibility, use teamwork, and to take care of our community. When a big snack delivery was dropped off on Tuesday, it was the perfect opportunity for the children to help out. Kohavim and Haifa Lunch Bunch helped by carrying all the grocery bags and then unloading each bag. They then passed the many boxes of crackers, cereal, and other delicious snacks to Ellen who put each box away in our snack storage cabinet. Giving children age appropriate jobs or "chores", such as helping put away groceries, is the perfect way to develop some of these skills. You might want to ask your child to help carry and put away the groceries at home or help take care of your home in other ways, such as setting the table for dinner or helping to load the dishwasher. 

Respect all living things!

In honor of Tikkun Olam Day we have had many discussions about how we can take care of our world? The children came up with some great ideas! No matter how big or how small we need to respect all living creatures and things... Put the garbage in the trash where it belongs, plant lots of trees, fruits , vegetables and last but not least recycle at home and at school too!

Exploring with insects and reading a variety of books about living creaters in our world have really made us all aware of how we can take care of our world.!

Taking Care of Our Things

As the school year begins to come to a close, the Haifa class is taking extra care of their things. We have used toys over and over again, and we are taking these last few days as a way to give them one more good clean before summer. We started with the playdough toys, and today it was time for the sensory table toys. Letting the students take responsibility for the cleanliness of their toys helps them realize that they are truly the ones in control of the well-being of the toys they use. If they take good care of their toys and keep them clean, the longer we will be able to enjoy them! I'm curious to see what toys will end up in the cleaning center next...legos or magna-tiles??
