In Lunch Bunch the children asked to string beads today. It was so nice as all the children gathered around the table to string the beads ...the entire class! The conversation was priceless and everyone created something different. Olivia made a butterfly, Justin made a dinosaur, Hayley and Ally created patterns and Sally made a dream catcher.

Could this be Music?
We brought in some metal items for exploration. In their exploration they discovered that both the placement of the recycled items sounded different as did the what the tool used for tapping. I wonder what makes music? Who decides what is music? This was the beginning of our musical garden.

How Big Is Too Big?
Much to our delight, Steve forgot his lunch today. So, he stopped on the way to work and purchased a tuna sub. His tuna sub caused so much attention, because it was so BIG, that the Etzim children had to measure it. After lots of guesses, the sub measured in at 21 inches!!
Laura had Lunch Bunch with Ruach and shared this photo and story with them, much to their delight!! Jack walked around the playground telling everyone "Did you hear about Steve's giant sandwich?" The children also had some ideas about what would happen if Steve ate the whole sub.
Olivia - "He will get a GINANTIC fever."
Eliana - "He will get sick."
Sophie S. "His hair might turn a different color!" Jack "Like Ellen's did at Purim."
Lilah - "He would get a belly ache. I also hope he didn't touch that sandwich with that ruler because that ruler is full of germs."

Adamah Lunch Bunch!
The teachers and children enjoyed eating lunch together. When lunch was over we continued to decorate the pumpkins in our sensory table, and spent some time with Etzim in their room. The moon sand was a big hit! Then we painted with watercolors and finished the day with some outside play!

Playng with Paint
Today during lunch bunch Jesse brought out some water color paints and white felt for us to explore in the sukkah. At first we used brushes to apply the paint to the felt. It was neat to see the vibrant colors but some of the kids found it tricky to get enough paint on the brush. Then we had an idea. We decided to drip the paint directly from the bottle on to the felt. It was so neat. The color was thick and vibrant and the children loved seeing the colors mix on top of each other. It was also neat to notice the different shapes the colors made and how the brush lines differ from the splatter paint effect of the bottles. Many children came and spent time at this activity, all were excited to see the beautiful colors in our beautiful sukkah.

Shamayim's First Etrog Experience
Shamayim's First Lunch Bunch!

We had a fantastic first lunch bunch in Shamayim today! We started to form our routine of starting with a circle, reading a book, washing hands and then enjoying lunch together. While we ate we listened to some quite music and enjoyed conversation about our delicious lunches! I am so excited to be spending both Mondays and Fridays with Shamayim this year!

Glass Work
The Etzim and friends lunch bunch group has been blessed with the arrival of the wonderful Tel Aviv teacher Sasha. She brings with her a very unique skill known as glass cutting/fusing. Each student had the opportunity to choose and cut various colors of glass in order to create a necklace. In addition to becoming glass artists, we also learned two safety rules when doing this kind of work. We must wear safety goggles to protect our eyes and work gloves to protect our hands. Other then that, the only rule was to be creative and have fun! Thanks Sasha and bruchim habayim (welcome) to the Etzim and friends lunch bunch!

Art on Thursday with Liz
This week the children in the Levana lunch bunch group completed their clay-gem sculptures with a coat of colorful paint under the guidance of Liz, our art specialist. Creating art builds self confidence, reinforces hand-eye coordination, pre-writng skills, a sense of competence and pride in accomplishment." My mom and Dad will love this.
"Look I made green." "
I painted the plate."
"I need silver."
They'll be dry in a few days and the children can take them home for all to admire.

Wednesday Lunch Bunch
Each Wednesday after eating lunch, the Kohavim and Haifa children join Tina and Betty in the Levana classroom. This afternoon, the children were incredibly busy. They played in the kitchen area making meals and calling family and friends. The water table was a place of co-operative experimentation with pvc pipe/ There was pink playdough borrowed from our neighbors, the Etzim class. And of course, the very popular trains and tracks where some of the children extended the tracks right under the table making a super long loop. It's fun for the children to return to their familiar classroom space and it's certainly a treat for me to spend the time with them seeing how much they have grown.

Working with Clay
Each week on Thursdays after lunch we will have an art activity with Liz Green (Josh's mom). Today Liz brought us clay to work with. There were jewels and shells to set into the clay. There were rolling pins, brushes and other objects to use to create textures in the clay. Next week, after they dry, the children will paint their clay objects. Let the creativity begin!

Woodworking Expose
During the past few weeks, the students have been talking about a woodworking project. Last Friday we began the project by using paper strips to replicate wood pieces and make our plans. The children cut and ripped the strips to construct their ideas. The students wanted to take home their work but were reminded that they need their building plans. Look for further updates on our progress!
Molly said,"I 'm making a triangle, a square, and a rectangle."
Max used a "triangle, long chimney, and a square." to construct a house.
Brett Stone made a "birdhouse in a rectangle."
Jarred made a "birdhouse" with rectangles.

Look who is caring for the baby!
l
Josie(Mom) and Noah(Dad) enjoyed playing and taking care of their baby today. They fed the baby, put him in a blanket and bounced the baby up and down. As they shook the blanket they said, "Weeeeee" as the baby bounced around!
When it was time to clean up and go to Simon Hall to play, Noah did not want to put his baby away for the day. I told him first we will clean up, and then he could bring the baby to play with us in Simon Hall. Noah got right to work cleaning the classroom with his friends.

Shell Surprise
Haifa lunch bunch children continued their fascination with the new shells in their room by thinking of some new, interesting uses for the shells! Shell beards were a runaway success!

Glass Gems
During Lunch Bunch, the Kohavim and Haifa children have been exploring glass gems. They used muffin tins to sort the gems. Some children sorted by color, shape, and even texture! Some of the children used the gems and muffin tins to pretend they were selling cupcakes! Using the glass gems and muffin tins provided wonderful math opportunities such as noticing characteristics of objects and sorting. The children were inspired to engage in dramatic play and the beautiful glass gems provide an interesting sensory opportunity as they feel smooth, different shaped, and a bit cold to touch.

Sticky Sticky Bubblegum!
The Etzim Lunch Bunch class has been learning some new songs and fingerplays. "Sticky, Sticky Bubblegum" has quickly become a classroom favorite. There is even an alternate version of the song that the children do in the morning with Laura and Julia! Ask your child to do a demonstration at home.
Audrey, Mia and Jack participate in the bubblegum song.
Lilah, Sophie, and Olivia pretend to have gum stuck to their heads!
