Learning about Mexico

In the Unicorn classroom, today we further our conversation about different holidays we celebrate as Jewish Americans, and began to talk about how Jewish people in other countries celebrate holidays that are specific to their own countries. Last week, we talked in depth about Israeli Independence Day and the United States Independence day.  How we celebrate both because, of who we are and where we live.  This week, we have been talking about Jewish people who live in Mexico, and how they celebrate the holiday of Cinco de Mayo.  The class looked online together and found interesting pictures of children celebrating the holiday, Jewish day schools, snacks children eat in school, and other activities that Jewish children do.  Today for snack, we made quesadillas and it was a HIT!

Snack Time In Israel

It was finally snack time in Israel. The handling of all the food in our shuk made us very hungry. We made falafel and french fries. In Israel french fries are called ~chips ~ So we rolled the falafel into balls, fried the potatoes ( recently purchased at our shuk), cut cucumbers and tomatoes, and watermelon. We learned that in Israel many people eat falafel with chips in the pita bread along with the veggie salad. Some friends had falafel, some friends had just chips with pita bread, and others all three, veggie salad, falafel, and pita bread. It was all delicious.

The quote of the day came from Jake who said " can we stay in Israel for life?"
