Time for a Picnic

This week, Noah and Lily used a piece of fabric as a picnic blanket. They moved all of the pretend fruits and vegetables to the blanket and enjoyed a yummy picnic together! Providing open ended materials, such as pieces of fabric, inspires limitless imaginative play.

May I Take Your Order?

Samantha and Hillary were playing restaurant today during recess. One would ask what the other wanted and then bring out the order. Samantha told Hillary "I would like a salad with croutons please." Hillary asked "what drink?" Samantha replied "juice!." This was a very cute exchange. When it was Hillary's then to order, she asked for "chicken and some water please!" The two proceeded to take turns back and forth ordering and being the waitress. What fun!

Creating our own Nile!

The Tel Aviv class has been busy busy turning the sensory area into their very own Nile River. yesterday we spent time practicing out cutting and making reeds. Some had straight sides others had waves! Each child wanted to challenge themselves as they strove to cut out a whole page of green reeds! after they were cut they went and grabbed some tape to tape them on the walls!
 The whole area was transformed!
Today the crew was delighted to see that we had added water and babies to the sensory table so we can pretend to float Moses down the river in the basket. So many fun ways to play and explore with the Passover story!

A four year old doctor check up

It was very sweet to see Charlotte, Molly and Samantha playing in the tent, It was a pretend game of a 4 year old doctor check up appointment. Charlotte was the patient and she got the full treatment! She knew just how to role play this scenario because she just turned 4 over the weekend!

Let's Play Hannukah!

This week we have seen so much "Hannukah Play" in the Tel Aviv class!  Kids love playing house in our dramatic play center and it has been neat this week to watch the house play evolve into Hanukkah House play! Kids have been keeping their same family roles but  "lighting" the menorah, cooking latkes and exchanging presents! It is obvious that they are loving celebrating Hanukkah at home with their families and it is a unifying and exciting theme to re-enact through play!  

Ahoy Maytee! Ellen visits Levana

Today, the children were playing a make believe pirate game they came up with on their own. Using our giant cardboard box as a boat, and left over toilet paper rolls as binoculars!
During this scenario, Ellen Dietrick came in to Levana to play with the children. It was great to see how excited the children were to spend time with her. And, we were all really impressed that she fit inside our cardboard box (the pirate ship) which we have used over and over for different projects.
Levana really enjoys visits with Ellen, many children expressed that they didn't want her to leave and asked for her to return again soon! We hope she does. Thanks, Ellen!
