Say Hello to the Scientists of 2011-2012

Is that magnetic?

With all of the rainy days that we've had lately, the Scientists have become accustomed to starting our days in the block room for a change of scenery. And as fun as the blocks and building materials in the block room are, they can get a little tiring after awhile. So today, we brought in a magnet set to bring some intrigue back into the room!

Our Scientists walked around the entire room with their magnets, seeing what was magnetic and what was not. One notable surprise was that the door handle was NOT magnetic, but the light switch cover WAS!

Friends had a great time working and discovering together on this rainy morning.

A Color Explosion!

For the end of the year event, each class in the Children's Center is tie-dying shirts with a class specific color! The Scientists chose the class favorite: purple. Each student helped dye their own shirt, and we are going to open them up tomorrow to see our handiwork!

Morning science experiments with The Scientists!

This morning the Scientists enjoyed free play in the block room and in the hallway. Many Scientist enjoyed building and creating with the blocks and the vehicles in the room, but a few Scientists began to explore the momentum created when the cars were going down the ramp. Daniel and Matthew were exploring the different speeds and different directions the cars were taking when they were allowed to roll at their own pace.

Learning the Food Pyramid!

To continue with our learning about nutrition, the Scientists noticed something different in the room: a blank pyramid! At circle time, the teachers introduced the pyramid as a food pyramid, showing what are the things we should eat more of and what we should eat less.

As the teachers pulled out a different piece of food from the envelope, we decided as a class where to put things. Some things, such as cheeseburgers and spaghetti and meatballs, were placed on the outside because they could fit in a number of places on the pyramid.

The pyrmaid was left out during free play so that the children could continue classifying foods on their own or with one another. It was a real treat watching their minds work to figure out where we should put each food!
