A Joyous Shabbat Celebration

Cody led us as our Shabbat helper this morning.  We shared the blessings together during circle, then enjoyed the delicious challah and grape juice.  The children are getting used to the idea of taking turns with the role of Shabbat helper.  Several of them are very interested.  We set up a table before the children arrive on Thursday with the candles, kiddush cup, and a plastic challah and its cover. There are kippot available should anyone choose to wear one.  Together we welcome the joy of shabbat into our bodies, our hearts, and our souls.  Shabbat shalom to everyone!

Time flies when you are having fun!

We had such a busy morning in the Shamayim classroom!  Rosie's mommy and daddy treated us to yummy Chanukah cookie making.  We started with just a recipe and ingredients and ended up with the most delicious cookies.  We ate some at snack and still had a few to take home to our families.  Thank you Rosie for sharing your mom and dad with us!!

Then Josh arrived to do some singing and dancing.  We spun like dreidels, swayed our fingers like glowing candles, smiled and giggled and laughed a bit, too!  Thanks to the Etzim class for joining us - it is always fun to be with you!!

Right after Josh, we had another special visitor!  Sonia's mommy came to make delicious homemade apple sauce.  She brought her food mill which many of us had never seen.  Sonia did a great job demonstrating how it works.  We ate some of the applesauce for snack today and we saved more for the latkes we will have on Wednesday!  Thank you to Sonia and her mom!

Finally, we lit the menorah together to celebrate the 3rd night of Chanukah.  What a special day!  When it was time to go home, the children couldn't believe it.  It really goes to show you that time does fly when you're having fun!!

Lighting the First Candle

Many of the children in the Levana class wanted to help light the first candle on our menorah. Sydney, Abby and Lindsey jumped right in to assist Gabi as she lit the candle and we sang the blessings together. Then we placed the menorah in the window just like in the song we sang with Rabbi Jay earlier this week.
