Grown Ups Come Back

We all miss our parents sometimes and when a classmate missed his mom, Sam decided to lend a hand. "It's ok," he said. "I can make a song about it." And so, he did.

Having a plan

"I'm staying for lunch bunch" Brett announced as he walked in the room on Wednesday. He had Nana in one hand and his Lunch Bunch book in the other. Some of the children in our class stay for lunch and others go home. Brett and I made a book about the days when he stays for lunch bunch. It shows all of the steps in his day...from drop off to mommy's arrival at pick up. Brett is able to open his Lunch Bunch book and, with the help of a teacher or maybe a friend, figure out where he is in his day and know what event is coming next. Brett enjoys reading his Lunch Bunch book and the other children love hearing the story of his day, too!!

The arrival of a new baby...

Grayden shared some big news with us today. His baby sister Mischa Alexandra Loeb was born this weekend! Grayden shared a picture with us that showed him holding Mischa in his arms at the hospital. We read a book called I'm a Big Brother during circle time. We heard about the things that babies do and how we can care for them. During our play today, several children enjoyed holding, dressing, comforting, and caring for our classroom babies.

Getting To Know You

Every day this week each child has stretched their comfort zone a little bit.  Day by day, we are getting to know our friends and teachers.  We've been playing with wonderfully comforting sensory materials, like playdough and water.   Cows and farm animals have also been a big hit.  We've been building barns, lining up animals, and sometimes just carrying a pig or cow around to make us feel better!  What a fun day!

Reading to my mom

New beginnings can be hard, but Max found comfort in indentifying items that were like the ones he had at home. "I have a couch at my house." he told Mary Ann, looking at the yellow couch where he was sitting. "And I have this book." Mary Ann started to sing Baby Beluga and Max again noticed, "I sing that at home!" After realizing that so many of the items and routines of his new classroom had similarities to those he knew from home, Max was ready to relax with a good book. Look in the corner. Can you see who he invited to join him? "I'm reading to my mom!"

Family Photos

Having the family photos accessible in the classrooms has made the start of school a breeze. Miss your family? Just grab your photo and bring it along to your activity. This morning families joined us from their frames for a sticker art project and even outside on the playground. Somehow having mom or dad nearby provides enough comfort to focus on the activities of the school day. What a beautiful way to keep the children connected to their home lives even while at school.
