Preparing to fill the Planter

After collecting measurements and information about how to construct a bottom for our planter, Ryan took on the job of making a list of what we would need to put plants in the planter. He recorded a list of  things we would need to care for plants. He wrote soil, seeds, and water. He also represented seeds by drawing many tiny seeds. 

Dear Ellen,
We need soil for our planter.
Love, 

Next, Lily, Eliza, and Molly wrote a letter to Ellen requesting soil. They wrote, "Dear Ellen, We need soil for out planter." All of the children and teachers signed the letter. Then a group of kohavim children delivered the letter to Ellen's office. Stay tuned to find out when we receive our soil and what we decide to plant in our classroom planter! 

Can we fit one more?

Today, Ben and Zachary sat down on our big blue 18 wheeler.  Usually, we find the children pushing the truck around the room, stopping for deliveries and the occasional fire (it is a multi-purpose 18 wheeler).  Today, it became a bench.

Brett saw the new use and thought that he could fit on it too.  Zachary and Ben scooted back and held on tight as Brett sat down.  They fit!  Noah Sirlin saw the boys smiling and giggling.  He came over and asked if he could fit.  Brett opened his legs, scooted back gently so that no one would fall off, and made room for Noah.  Noah backed in and the four boys sat snuggly on the truck.  Amazing what we can accomplish with a little communication and teamwork!

Working together

Molly, Audrey, and Sophie were involved in small group play as they worked together to assemble the train tracks. They had a constant dialogue about where the tracks should go and which people (figurines) should go on the tracks. Molly was in charge of the people while Sophie and Audrey were in charge of putting the track together. Each girl had a role and communicated nicely with one another about what she was doing. Nice teamwork!

A proud artiste shares his work with some children in the religious school

Teddy Post loves making unique and imaginative creations at the art center. On the left is a picture of Teddy writing his name, something he just learned to do. The picture on the right is "a dinosaur machine that makes tiny and big dinosaurs." Teddy plans to post his picture on one of our cabinets that we use to exchange notes and pictures with the religious school children who share our room. We were delighted to receive two letters today from Ben and Reed, two students in Liron Riess's third grade religious school class. Maria and I recently talked with Liron about establishing a correspondence between her students and ours. The Kohavim children were very excited to receive our first letters today. Sam, Mia, and Teddy Post have written back so far. We are all very excited about continuing to write to our new religious school buddies as the year goes on.
