Sharing at second morning meeting

Josh Van Dam was very eager to share his sketches with us at second morning meeting. We tell the children that if they want to share something from home, it needs to be something they made, something from nature, or a book. Josh had a sketch book in which he made several drawings. It was great to see the children's reactions. A number of the children looked carefully at the drawings and couldn't believe that Josh had made them himself. Unfortunately I wasn't able to capture Josh's proud reaction with my camera but it was there. Thank you Josh for sharing your fine work.

Everyone has a role

Teddy Fox, Sam, Nathaniel, Josh, and Mia tell the rest of the group about the building structure they all collaborated on this morning. Sam said: "We made it out of squares, and the things on top made it look like a castle." The 'things on top' were triangular Magna-tiles that the children were trying to balance. As Sam noted, "It wasn't steadying or stable." "Me and Nathaniel looked through the doors to see what was in it. We saw the cars inside." Josh added: "We put the cars on top of the building." Sam ended by saying: "The triangles from the top came off and turned in to a surfing board.

Reflective learning

During our second meeting each morning the children share something that they worked on during the morning, something that they learned, a new idea they may have had, etc. Hadley, Ilana, and Mia have been using stickers to make a very long and colorful "scroll" that they have connected with tape. Today Hadley commented: "We have worked very hard on this. Matt made a piece, and we attached it to our to make it longer. There are a few new stickers and pages today." Matt said: "I like this dolphin picture." Hadley and Ilana counted the number of pages, and both concluded that there were 17 pages in total.
