Reading on the Rug

After snack, the Levana children gather on the circle rug for reading. Lots of learning and interactions occur. The children above are listening intently to a non-fiction book about pigs that Eliana brought in to share. Elias and Julia enjoyed books of their own choosing, and read on their own.

 

Sonia and Samantha came together in a quiet spot, each with a book of her choice, and formed a reading pair. They agreed quickly on the agenda, with Sonia announcing, "Samantha, you read your book to me and then I'll read my book to you." We learn that there are so many ways to enjoy reading, and our circle rug can accommodate them all!

Independent Reading

Today in the Levana class we introduced a new activity. After finishing snack and cleaning up their food, children are invited to the rug for some quiet, independent reading. This allows sufficient time for those children who take a bit longer at the snack table while encouraging other children time to select, share or 'read" by one's self. Then when everyone is ready, we can move onto the next activity.
