Way Up High in the Apple Tree...

 

A couple of weeks ago, the Keshet class started what turned into a multi-day project to make a class tree.  The children worked on the leaves of the tree using green markers and crayons and even glue and tissue paper squares.  We made the leaves more colorful by adding "fall colored" tissue paper as well--yellow, red orange.  Today we worked on the trunk of the tree using markers, crayons and Bingo markers.  We attached the leaves to the trunk, hung it up on the wall and introduced the tree during our circle time.  We all got up and sang the song "Way up High in the Apple Tree"at circle in honor of our class tree.

                                    

Another way to represent Daffodils

 After representing the daffodils with watercolor paints, we put out strips of bleed tissue paper. The children tore pieces of tissue paper to form the shapes of the flowers. Next, they wet the tissue paper and watched as the color bled onto their white background. They then peeled up the tissue paper to reveal their creation. It is so exciting to to see the many ways children can represent their observations.

Creating our Elijah's Cup

Last week we the Tel Aviv class talked about different objects we use to celebrate passover. Then we had a vote to see which object the children wanted to create and Elijah's cup won! Today we got started on making our own Elijah's cups by decorating them with modge-podge and tissue paper. The class was excited to be using real glass and they were excited to try mode podge again with a new medium. It was neat to look through the glass and see all the colors of tissue paper. We used much smaller pieces of tissue paper wit smaller brushes which gave each person more control of their design while practicing fine motor skills and control of the brush. Over the next few days we will be adding paint, beads, and wire to create very special cups that we can use at our seders this weekend!
