Alex Helps Out!

Today Alex R. was the first one finished washing his hands before snack. Together we went from the bathroom back to the classroom to set up snack while the rest of the class were finishing washing hands. I put out napkins and asking Alex to put a cup next to each napkin. One by one he picked the cup off the top of the stack and then placed a cup on a napkin. At first he did this job a bit timidly. Once I continued to re-enforce that he was doing a great job, he became very excited and proud of his task. It always amazes me how capable such young children can be! By the second table he had a cup in each hand! He proudly showed Hannah the table when she walked in the room, ready for snack.

A Box is Just a Box. . .

...unless it's not a box!

A small rabbit in Antoinette Portis's book shows us that a simple box can take us as far as the imagination allows. The Keshet children began to investigate a large box today. Bailey first got the feel of the box by measuring its height relative to her own, and then experienced her own strength, and the box's weight, by lifting and turning it over. Sadie was the first adventurer to board the vehicle, ducking in and out, and bringing along her family picture for the voyage. Mia began to decorate the outside, choosing crayons of several colors. We wonder where our imaginations will take us in the days ahead.

Always Room For Two

Where There's Smoke...

Jillian has been our Number One Leaf Collector this week   She is now joined daily by others seeking beautiful leaves.   Yesterday Jillian was using the magnifying glass to get a closer look at the leaves.  We sat down for an outside picnic for snack, placing the magnifying glass in a bin near the leaves.  Apparently, the sun was shining just right through the glass while we were eating, because suddenly we saw smoke!  This was a fascinating accidental experiment for our Etzim children (and yes, the teachers.)  We explored the power of the sun rays through the glass with a number of different items.  We can now report with confidence that we can ignite a dried leaf and a dandelion.

Yesterday in Levana we got together with Shamayim to wish each other a happy week. 

Corn Plucking

The children were enthralled with using their fingers to pluck dried kernels of corn from the cob.

It takes time, patience, and finger strength to manipulate/remove the kernels off the cob.

Once we remove all the kernels of corn, we will collage with the kernels and paint with the cobs!

An act of kindness

 Today, Lilah created a headband with   hole punchers and staples. Many children were  intrigued by her fashion statement and  asked for help. Lilah told us that she would make a headband for anyone  who asked. At one point, she  said, "Oh no, there's no more paper" and  we replenished the supply. The last hat was made for Jack and it was gently placed on his head  by the artist.
