A Special Reader Visits the Shamayim Class

We had two visitors come to our classroom today, Sonia's sister, Naomi and her mom, Marissa. Naomi read three stories to us.  Naomi is a wonderful reader and we were great listeners.  Then, Marissa played her guitar and we sang Old McDonald and some silly songs with  hand and body movements.  Thank you Sonia for sharing your sister and mommy with us today.  We had so much fun!

Imagination in the Shamayim Classroom

Today in the Shamayim classroom,  Josh, Ilan, Grayden and Bennett, decided to turn our chairs into a dragon.  This dragon was a very friendly and hungry dragon.  

Butterfly update!

Almost all The chrysalises have formed! We are waiting for one more caterpillar to find a safe place to rest. On Wednesday or Thursday we will place them into the observation habitat.

The Tel Aviv children have been observing the caterpillars with their eyes only. The children have been respectful and realize that if we touch or move the caterpillars we could hurt them. They are eager to help and support the caterpillars on their journey to become beautiful butterflies!

Guess Who's Three?

 

The Keshet class was pleased to celebrate Eva's birthday today with a visit from Eva's mom and two wonderful books. We listened attentively as we heard Caps for Sale, and Happy Birthday, Moon, and we seranaded Eva to Happy Birthday in English and in Hebrew. Thanks for spending time with us, Margie, and congratulations, Eva!

Transitions

Today the Keshet children removed the sand from our sensory table. We’ve enjoyed playing in the sand, but now it’s time to use some water, soap and sponges—time to wash our toys, tables and chairs. Some of these  may be used by children in the summer program, and some will be ready for September.

We scooped and poured sand into containers, and carried it outside to use it in the big sandbox. We wiped and washed the sensory table, then filled it with clean soapy water. Now we’re ready to wash the legos, plastic dinosaurs, kitchen toys, and tools that we have played with.

The children loved this project, and we had the opportunity to talk about change, and to reflect on some important things we’ve learned and practiced this year:

Materials used in one area can later be useful in another.

We try not to waste anything.

We all take care of our classroom and our tools and playthings.

Work is easier when we all pitch in. We’re a team!

Things change, and change can be fun.

We're transferring the sand from the table into buckets.

Now we're carrying it outside. If we can't carry it, we can slide it!
