A Puppet Show on Noah's Ark

Puppets are a great way for children to use their imaginations. They are the means for children to explore their world including the use of a variety of voices. As we continue to explore Noah and his story, we have turned the ark into a puppet theatre. Look closely to find Joshua's frog exiting our Noah's Ark Puppet Theatre via the plank. Can you see the red dog that Elias has peeking out a window?

Who Built the Ark?

Children are fascinated by the biblical story of Noah and the Ark; how he gathered the animals two by two and waited for 40 days and nights while it thundered and rained outside. Elias and Micah attentively listen as Mary Ann reads the book. Later this week, the Levana children will be designing and building our own ark. One of our most popular songs has lyrics everyone enjoys singing: Who Built the Ark? Noah. Noah. Who Built the Ark? Noah built the ark.

The Animals came on by Two-ies Two-ies!

Yesterday the sixth graders in my religious school class were given a challenge to create an object from a story in the Torah using some supplies in the Tel Aviv classroom. One group created a Noah’s ark and donated their final product to our classroom thinking the class would enjoy playing with it, and indeed they did! Molly and Rachel spent lots of time in the block area filling the ark up with animals. Then Eli, Dylan and Jacob joined them and added insects. Molly then decided that they should make sure the animals shouldn’t get wet from the ocean, and placed colored scarves covering all the animals. The ark grew to be a beautiful product of everyone’s ideas. The students thought it was so neat that the sixth graders had been in their classroom and made something for them to play with. I am excited to tell class 6D tomorrow that the Tel Aviv class enjoyed their ark!

Two By Two

Unicorns were busy working on our auction item- Noah's Ark bookends! We read a book about Noah's adventures and we learned a song about Noah and his animals (Rise and Shine). We talked about what an auction is and how we can help our school by making an item for sale that will not go home with us.

It was alot of fun making the animals. We put our bookends in the hall so all the parents can have a chance to bid. In case you will not be attending the event on May 7th, please stop by, check it out and place your bid!

Noah - in Cookie form...

In the Rainbow classroom, we made some unusual sugar cookies. As part of our recent focus on the story of Noah and the Ark, we made sugar cookies in the form of Noah himself. The children worked as a team and participated in all stages - from rolling the dough to cutting out the Noah figures. We had some dough left over that we formed into circles and decorated with jam. Delicious!

Sensory Table Experiments

The Rainbows had some fun exploring the styrofoam packing peanuts that appeared in the sensory table last Thursday. Some of the animals Noah was planning to take on the ark had made their way into the light, fluffy stuff. As you can see, the peanuts were lots of fun to crunch in our fingers, to break into pieces, to throw in the air, and to stir around and around. The peanuts ended up sticking to us, so they made their way all over the classroom. It wasn't long before we decided they weren't the best choice for the sensory table. Nancy learns along with the Rainbows!!!
