Adamah Apple Crisp

It took a few days to finally enjoy the fruits of our labor, but the Adamah class finally tasted the delicious apple crisp we baked last week.  We studied our recipe, chopped apples, measured, mixed, poured and took our delicious treat to the oven. 

Applesauce

 

The Keshet children have explored apples in many ways this fall. Today we engaged many of our senses in making delicious applesauce for snack. We continue to introduce implements and tools, and today we used our plastic knives, first talking about safety, feeling the serrated edge that we used to 'saw' the apples, and then practicing. Ben, Isabella and Ethan produced some finely chopped apples that cooked quickly in our crockpot. We smelled the apples and the cinnamon that we used for seasoning; Eva and Harrison tasted the cinnamon, and agreed that it was better on the apples than taken alone. Harrison led the way in cleaning up, scooping peels, cores and seeds into the basket, and we all washed the tables together. Snack is always special when we have worked together to make it!

Clean-Up Helpers!

Yesterday we noticed that apples in our sensory table were going to be soft soon and that it was time to throw them away. Molly and Charlotte filled up the bowls with apples and then brought them across the room to the trashcan and poured the all the apples from the bowls into the trashcan. It was such a big help and it was great that the girls worked together to gather the apples and to try to figure out what was the best way to reach up high into the trashcan to throw them out. Nice work ladies! We knew we could depend on you to be awesome clean up helpers!

Apples at the Sensory Table!?

Today the Tel Aviv kids entered the room to find what was the bean filled sensory table filled with water and apples. As soon as circle was over the majority of the class rushed over to explore. The class enjoyed picking up and dumping the apples and the manipulatives allowed for their imagination to run wild. Throughout the morning applesauce, apple stew and apple cakes were all made. The water table also is a good place to practice sharing and turn taking. Also it is inevitable that there is some splashing at a table filled with water and Tel Aviv kids had to ask their friends to be gentle so that they wouldn’t get soaked.  All had fun, and we can wait to see what the “Apple Chefs” will make tomorrow!

Apples to Apples Fun!

Earlier this week Rachel saw that I had an Apples to Apples game and wanted to play! We took the game out and set it up. Hannah, Molly and Dylan were eager to play. We played with open hands and I read all the cards to each player. It was great to see how each child was able to associate their cards with the "green adjective card" For delicious Molly played "cucumbers" which is one of her favorite vegetables but Hannah's card, "glazed doughnuts" was the most appealing to Dylan. Each child loved being the "judge" and getting to pick which card fit the best. The game also enables each child to think about which card the "judge" would like best not just their own preferences. I could see their minds ticking as they picked each card it was fun for me to share my game with them!

Apple Polling

The results are in; the Levana children love apples! We have been examining apples, cooking with them, reading and singing about them, and dipping them in honey for a Rosh Hashanah snack. Time to add a little statistical analysis to our apple preferences. The children enthusiastically sampled Honey Crisps, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, and the ubiquitous Mac. After tasting, they were invited to vote yes or no on whether they liked each variety. Votes and comments were recorded on an apple chart. The poll results showed no clear favorite; it seems the Levana children have never met an apple they didn't like.

Apple Art!

Some members of our Tel Aviv class decorated an apple mural using real apples as stamps! There are so many wonderful uses for apples and wonderful ways to create art! Come in our classroom to see our creation!

Apple Pie

Children love to cook at preschool. It's all about adding ingredients, stirring, mixing and measuring. It's preschool math in action. We combined apples, cinnamon, oatmeal and honey.

There's a wonderful sense of accomplishment that from the parts you can create something so very delicious to share among friends. The aroma was so fragrant and sweet -it just like the greeting we share for a beautiful, sweet New Year. Shana Tova
