Purim Puppets!

What does Haman look like?
How do you make a queen?
What shapes make up a face?

This week we have been examining the Purim story from so many different angles and one way we really dove into understanding each character was by creating them! We used Popsicle sticks, paper, sequins and googly eyes to make awesome stick puppets of the Purim characters. Stay tuned to hear about our Purim puppet productions!

Whose Eyes are Those?

 

During the first week of Haifa Lunch Bunch Olive noticed two holes on the wall.  "Whose eyes are those?" she asked.  The whole group joined in a  long conversation and decided to add eyebrows, a nose and lips.  We had so much fun the next month we turned the eyes into a caterpillar, then a butterfly.  Last week we created Tootsie the Bear!  We wrote a book about Tootsie, with each class member writing a page of the story.  We were delighted and surprised to walk into lunch bunch one day and find a letter waiting for us from Wednesday Mayim, asking us why "you keep changing whatever is covering the holes?"  We responded "Because we like being silly."  We look forward to what we'll create next with this expressive and imaginative lunch bunch!

Gak! We made it...

This stuff is strange AND wonderful... It's made from water, food coloring,

lots of white glue, and borax. The children were delighted to see the transformation of these ingredients. I wonder which activity they liked more: making the gak, or exploring with it...

Lunch Bunch Fun!

At the beginning of Lunch Bunch I showed the children a variety of art materials. I then asked them to choose the materials they wanted to use. Check out their colorful creations! Wow!!!!!!

Playing and Working Together!!

Eli and Jacob worked as a team to put together floor puzzles. Molly showed us that clean up time can be fun too, as she danced and twirled around the room. Ezra, Molly, Dylan, and Lily enjoyed making chocolate pudding, chocolate rocks, chocolate snakes and chocolate bars with the play dough. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day even our Tel Aviv babies. Dylan and Lily (otherwise known as "Katie the Mom" and "Dylan the Dad"), were happy to feed and take care of their baby Samantha. "Mom" and "Dad" seemed to enjoy talking to baby Samantha in a loving, sweet, soft voice! Samantha is one lucky baby, that is for sure!

Clay Sculptures!

The children created clay sculptures with red clay, buttons and shells. Some children just had fun playing with the "cold wet clay", others had something very specific in mind they wanted to create. Ryan sat down at the table, looked at the materials and said, "I can't wait to make something complicated! I am going to make a complicated ship with oval buttons." I then asked Ryan, "What does complicated mean?" His response was, "It's something that is very, very tricky! My Dad told me that." Lizzie created a button and shell sculpture, Leo created a sculpture with buttons on the inside and outside and Jacob spent a lot of time creating a bunch of worms. Tomorrow the sculptures should be dry and ready to take home.

Magic Noodles?

The children enjoyed creating structures with magic noodles. It really seems like magic, all you have to do is dab a moist towel to the colorful noodle and it sticks to the other noodle/noodles.

-Ali created a "candy machine and a green and blue pattern".
-Leo created a "tower".
-Dylan created a "lego Batman and Robin".
-Eli made a "light saver".
-Ryan created a "tower".
-Alana created an "airplane machine".

First week fun!

The first week of camp has come and passed, but already, we have created so many memories of creation, exploration and FUN! With this, I would like to share some moments from on the playground that were filled with giggles, excitement, new understanding, and smiles!

We were ALL busy planting with Ms. Maria, swimming, finding underwater creatures, creating and filling the water wall with Ellen, and just having great time with all off the other teachers and counselors! What a fantastic week, I can only imagine what the next weeks have in store!
