We wrote a story... Together!

In extended day, Julian, Talia and Evan authored and illustrated a story together. They each illustrated different parts of the story and taped the pages together. Writing a book together involved discussing and negotiating ideas. They had to agree upon the plot and sequence of the story. With the idea originating from the children, they were extremely motivated to see their story from the start to finish. Below is the text of their story: 

The Little Boy that Got Lost

First, there was a guy and he rode on a mean dinosaur. And then he found his mom and his dad. And then he went in the house and then a happy witch game. It was a good witch. Then, there was a bad witch that came and tried to steal the little boy. The bad witch did not get the little boy, but the little boy got lost. The mom and the dad lived happily ever after in the farm. And then another dinosaur came and gobbled them up for dinner.

Playing in Nature

During extended day on Monday, we went behind our classroom to see what we might discover in nature. Evan explained that if we turned over large rocks we may be able to find some different insects. At first, we flipped some rocks to find worms and roly polies. Then, Evan turned over a rock and discovered a salamander! The children had such a giggle as they tried to hold the wiggly salamander in their hands. You never know what you might find right outside your door! 

Gak

On Monday, we made Gak during extended day. Josie, Noah, Evan, and Julian followed a recipe. Gak is a mixture of glue, borax soap, and water. We couldn't wait to play with the gak and let our friends in Kohavim and Kindergarten Enrichment feel the gak too! We noticed the gak felt wet, cold, and gooey. We stretched, rolled and squeezed the gak in our hands. If you would like to make gak at home with your child, please see the recipe below: 

Gak Recipe 
Solution A:1 1/2 cups warm water 
2 cups Elmer’s white glue
Food coloring (optional) 
Mix together until completely dissolved .
Solution B:4 teaspoons borax soap
1 1/3 cups warm water 
Mix together until completely dissolved.
Pour solution A into Solution B. Do not mix!Lift gak out and knead into shape.
