Tza'ar Ba'alei Chayim: Kindness to animals

We have a new addition to our classroom -- a fish!  Henry, Michelle and Mason are taking a closer look with Sylvia.  We are taking suggestions for names.  So far we have Blue Fish and Ducky.  Ask your kids if they have any ideas.
We'll be teaching the children about the mitzvah of taking care of animals as we care for our fish.

Fun with Fish!

Today in the water table we has fun with fish, bubbles and water bottles! We filled the water bottles up and squeezed them and watched the water come out. Eli said it looked like a volcano! We had three water bottles that we played with and there were some times when we had five kids who wanted to play at one time. This gave the opportunity to practice taking turns! Once the boys realized that they would eventually have a chance to play, taking turns became easy and then everyone was able to have fun playing with water!

Fish in the Sea

The Levana children continue learning about creation. G-d created the sea and all the creatures that swim. Elias and Julia stuff a giant paper fish with strips of newspaper. Using our fingers to tear paper is a viable technique to develop finger strength. With each opportunity, we gain stronger pencil grip readiness in preparation for writing. After we suspended the fish in the ocean, Gabriel had a chance to have it swim about.
