"He's Kind of Like a Magician!"

On this beautiful day back after spring break, the Haifa class was so lucky to have a surprise visitor: Grampy Ellerin came to class to do some magic!!! Grampy spends most of his days as a dermatologist named Dr. Phil, but likes to do some magic to wow people as well. He brought in a toolbox filled with a mix of magic and medical supplies. The children all took turns listening to their heart, seeing how our pupils change sizes, and trying to figure out how Grampy was able to do all of his magic tricks. The flowers out of the hat, changing animals, and card tricks had the children entranced! How lucky we were to spend this day after break with such an entertaining man!

A Special Guest!!

This Friday Rashi didn't have school so Josie's big sister Evie came in to read us a special story: If You Take A Mouse to School! It was great to hear a new twist one one of my own childhood favorites! Evie read with such expression and the whole class was captivated for not only one, but a second story as well! Thanks so much Evie! It was great to see you!

Touching the Buttons

Yesterday the Haifa class invited Sherry Grossman to come into our class and help us further our interest in music and musical instruments. Sherry works for Gateways, a Jewish organization that supports education in synagogues, and when we met with her, she mentioned her musical talent.

When she came in yesterday, we invited our friends in the Levana class to come as well. We were treated to a mini concert of a buffalo drum, a tenor saxaphone, and an oboe. Sherry played each instrument for the children, took them apart, and explained how the instruments made sounds. At the end of her jam session, the Haifas were able to touch the buttons on the saxaphone to see the difference between those buttons and those of a clarinet. They also took turns with the buffalo drum, one that was unknown to our class before.

Before Sherry left, she told us that she is part of a group that is working on Peter and the Wolf. During our musical study, Peter and the Wolf became one of the favorite pieces for the children to listen to. We were so excited to hear that they were working on it, and we are hoping that we will get to see or hear them perform!

Two Special Guests

Today we had two very special visitors in the Levana classroom. Naomi, Sonia's older sister and Isabelle, who is Olivia's older sister came in to read to us. Can you believe that they were in the same class when they were little and now they are so grown-up that they can read books! In the pictures,Naomi is reading an alphabet book filled with vegetables and Isabelle is reading a book about autumn and collecting leaves. It was wonderful to have such super readers.Thank you for visiting the Levana children.
