Haifa Lunch Bunch Ice Cream Party

"Will it ever be done"

Haifa Lunch Bunch celebrated our last Monday together by making ice cream.  After much debate, we decided on chocolate chip.  It was messy, delicious, and fun!  We were especially delighted Olive could join us.  We've missed her at lunch bunch!

"Ballerina group picture"

We are the ballerinas of the Haifa lunch Bunch. We wanted to write our own blog today. We all love to dance together at Lunch Bunch. We all go to different classes but we like to dance together at lunch. Next year is making new friends time, but we can always dance together. written by Aleeza, Harper, Abby, and Lizzie (and Maddie "I am not in the picture but I want to be included!)

Who Likes Bees?

The Haifa Lunch Bunch had a picnic lunch yesterday, with the burning question of the day being "Who Likes Bees?"  Ben likes them "okay" but the Sam's are a definite "NO!"

Power Tools

Today Haifa lunch bunch had a chance to use an electric screw driver as they assisted Ellen in putting together a very cool bench made from a tree. It was loud and fun and it got us thinking about what we could make from trees we find in the woods...more to come...

The Last Unicorn

Most of the Haifa Lunch Bunch children were in the Unicorn class last year. At least once a week someone will ask why the class name was changed to Etzim. Today Ben asked if Etzim means Unicorn in Hebrew. We talked about the the meaning of the names of different classrooms, Etzim (Trees), Levana (moon) and classes named after places in Israel (Tel Aviv, Haifa.) but everyone was still wondering how to say Unicorn in Hebrew. Allison came by and helped us and then Rabbi Todd picked it up from there, leading a conversation with a captivated Haifa lunch bunch. Rabbi Todd told us "The English word unicorn has it's roots in Latin, with "uni" coming from one and "corn" meaning horn.  The Hebrew borrowed the second half from the English and replaced the first half "uni" with the Hebrew word for "one", echad.  The Hebrew word for unicorn is chadkorn.  Just like in English -"one horn."  The children thought about this and, upon Rabbi Todd's departure, used their lunch items to make unicorn horns.  Abby lamented "We were the last Unicorns."  Thanks Rabbi Todd, for some wonderful spontaneous learning!

Pajama Parties Are Exhausting!

Olive enjoying some Chanukah gelt!
Were we so cozy and sleepy because of our pajamas or, perhaps, eating five boxes of Annie's mac and cheese slowed us down!  Anyway around it, our mac and cheese/pajama lunch bunch Chanukah party was a hit!  Thanks to Sauci and Allison for helping get everyone into their pajamas in time for lunch!!

Haifa Lunch Bunch Visits the Library

Today Haifa Lunch Bunch took a stroll to the TBS library to check it out!  We were impressed by how many categories of books the library holds (History of Israel, Biographies of Jewish People, and our favorite, Jewish Holiday Books for Children.)  The Chanukah selection was large so we each chose our own books, followed by a joint reading of The Borrowed Hanukkah Latkes.  As the table was so long, Sam held up the book at one end while I read the same book at the other end.  If you haven't checked out the library, we highly recommend it!

Rock Art!

After some discussion at our second circle this morning Adam raised his hand and asked, "Can I paint a rock for my sister Mia?" I said, "Of course, in Lunch Bunch we can gather some rocks and paint them outside." Adam lit right up with the thought of "filling Mia's bucket", by painting her a rock! Adam inspired us all to paint and design rocks. The children painted big and small rocks. There were pink and orange rocks, green and blue, spotted and rainbow rocks too. If you get a chance come onto the playground tomorrow morning and check out the ROCK ART!

We Love A Good Idea

One day the Haifa Lunch Bunch were "taking a tour" when we were invited into the Levana classroom for a dance party.  Turns out Tina ends lunch bunch every day with a fun dance party.  We loved this idea so much that we, too, now end our day with dance party fun!
