Pride of Accomplishment

Posted by PicasaWinter clothing presents a challenge for all of us, but the Keshet children are growing rapidly in the self-help skills that enable them to take control of some of their dressing and undressing. Their motor abilities are growing by leaps and bounds, and they are gaining a sense of themselves as "big girls" or "big boys," who try to do  the things that the important people in their lives do. Abby readily takes responsibility for removing her boots and  putting on her shoes, often changing positions several times and moving between chair and floor. Her smile of satisfaction tells the story; only 8:35 and she has already enjoyed a major success!

Boy About Town

It was picture day today, and everyone put on their best face.  Our Unicorn friends were very interested in Jacob's tie, which he proudly showed us how to put on!

It's Delicious!!!

It was THE DAY for cooking our macaroni and cheese. First we looked at the ingredients we needed to use. The big chunk of cheese clearly would not melt so we followed these steps.

First: we cut up the cheese and placed it in a big bowl
Second: put the water in to boil
Third: Poured the noodles in and waited for the noodles to cook

We placed orange tape around the electric frying pan, to remind friends that they needed to stay outside of this square to stay safe.

After the hot noodles were placed on top of the cheese, and with some heavy stirring we had our macaroni and cheese.
We had already had snack, but it was just too much to expect that after so much work we couldn't have a taste test.

So everyone had some. It received a 2 thumbs up for taste. So thank you Josh for your delicious recipe.

Getting dressed

It is amazing to see how quickly these children have learned to dress themselves for going outside. At this point in the year, with just a bit of verbal coaching, they are putting on boots, flipping on coats, pulling on mittens, and adjusting hats with ease. What a competent and capable group of children!

Fruit Taste Test~ Woo hoo

There were definitely some favorites!!! You may want to ask your children which fruit they liked and which they did not, and perhaps which was their favorite? We really liked the persimmon by itself, but when we cut it up and added it to the pomegranate and pear, we didn't think it looked so good. We had lots of fun slicing the fruit though!!!
We look forward to more food adventures.
In case you are wondering we bought the persimmon at Sudbury Farms in Needham.

Dreidel Made of Bread

The Unicorn friends had fun making the dreidel out of "bread" to go along with one of their favorite Chanukah songs.

I had a little dreidel, I made it out of bread, I did not spin the dreidel, I ate it up instead.

They had to follow a few steps to get the finished product, but once completed, those dreidels were delicious.

I can do it by "myself"

Unicorn friends are so proud of their independence. When we provide children the opportunity to do things by themselves, thou it may take longer, we help them build confidence. Sadie and Max are enjoying delicious bagels, and carefully spreading a little butter. Rylan said he could zip his jacket by "himself". Dylan is eager to help a friend button her jacket as well. We are such kind thoughtful Unicorn friends.

What is an edible Torah??

It is all about food in the Unicorn Class!
To complete our Simchat Torah celebration we decided to make edible Torahs. We learned that "edible" means you can eat it.
You might want to ask your children what ingredients we used to make our Torahs. And what they needed to do first, second, and third in the preparation process, before they could say "It's delicious!
Such great chefs.
