Apple Tasting

The children had the opportunity to taste three types of apples, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, and Golden Delicious and then selected their favorite.  The results were recorded on a graph.

The children placed the appropriate sticker (red, green or yellow) onto the graph and a teacher  helped them write their name!  Even Lily's dog selected her favorite apple!  The best part was trying all the apples!  Yummy!!

Tomorrow at our morning meeting we will figure out ...Which is the most popular kind of apple?

Snack Time

 Snack time is more than just an opportunity to munch on yummy treats...  It is also an opportunity to socialize with peers, practice the Jewish value of derekh eretz (good manners), take turns, and even help develop math, language and science skills! Here, the Levana are enjoying a snack of grapes, animal crackers (one of our favorites!) and water.

Experiencing pumpkins with most of our senses!

The Adamah class enjoys a good sensory experience.  We've had the pumpkins in our sensory table for the past several days.  We've looked at them, drawn on them, touched them, and even washed them.  Today, however, when the children arrived in the classroom, they saw that some of them had been cut open to reveal the great mysteries inside!

Some of us really like to get our hands inside and scoop out the seeds and stringy goop. 

We cut a few more pumpkins open while the children watched, so that they could see for themselves what was under the lid.

The pumpkins definitely have a distinct look, smell, feel, and even sound (if you shake or tap them).  We haven't tasted them yet, but we're likely to do that soon!

How Big Is Too Big?

Much to our delight, Steve forgot his lunch today.  So, he stopped on the way to work and purchased a tuna sub.  His tuna sub caused so much attention, because it was so BIG, that the Etzim children had to measure it.  After lots of guesses, the sub measured in at 21 inches!!   

Laura had Lunch Bunch with Ruach and shared this photo and story with them, much to their delight!!  Jack walked around the playground telling everyone "Did you hear about Steve's giant sandwich?"   The children also had some ideas about what would happen if Steve ate the whole sub.

Olivia - "He will get a GINANTIC fever."

Eliana - "He will get sick."

Sophie S. "His hair might turn a different color!"  Jack "Like Ellen's did at Purim."

Lilah - "He would get a belly ache.  I also hope he didn't touch that sandwich with that ruler because that ruler is full of germs."

Today during lunch bunch some of my friends and I went on a bug search and look what we found. 

Rosie's Place

 Today the Etzim class made their first tuna casserole for Rosie's Place.  We found the basket where families donate the ingredients and gathered what we need. We enjoyed this so much we agreed to make another tomorrow!  The children enjoyed the cooking and were very curious about how the food gets from our freezer to Rosie's Place!

New Traditions

It is always fun to be in on the ground floor of a new tradition.  The Etzim class has been joyfully joining their neighbors, Adamah, for Shabbat.  Each week a different helper from each class lead the blessings as we join together in prayer, reflection, and song.  We love sharing our space with each other and extending our friendships.  Thank you Adamah!
