That Shabbat Feeling!

Celebrating Shabbat on Thursdays feels so, so good! First we gather outside under the tent. Once we all get settled Tina and a few of the children lead the group in the blessings of Shabbat. Then we all sing Shabbat songs together ("Shabbat is Here", "There's a Dinosaur Knocking at my Door", "Shabbat Shalom ", "I have that Shabbat feeling all over me" etc...).

Parachute Fun!

We didn't let the rain put a damper on our day! We proved once again that with or without the sun we always have fun! Mr Parachute came out to play. The children played "Cat and mouse", "Switch", "Pop the popcorn" and "Where, oh where is that little mouse?" If I had to guess I would say the "Cat and mouse game" was their favorite. When you get a chance you might want to ask you child what their favorite parachute game is...

Sand, Mulch and Water = Fun

Sand and water play ...It does not get better than that! Everywhere you looked today the children were engaged in sand and water play! Near the sand box there was a group of children making a "mud trap" in a large blue bucket. Over in the swing area just beyond the pools, the children created a stream in the mulch with shovels and water. At the end of the day when parents came to pick up their children, they looked a little like a group of adorable dalmatians.

I am sure everyone was asked to take a nice long bath tonight!

Happy Father's Day!

The children enjoyed decorating cards for Father's Day! They used a variety of collage materials, markers and glue to create their own special card for their own special Daddy.

Playground Fun!!!

The chill in the air didn't slow down the fun activities at TBSCC! We did some swinging on the monkey bars, threw beanbags at hoops, practiced our pumping skills on the swings, decorated baskets for a scavenger hunt later in the week, and last but not least played a bit of basketball! At the end of the day the children sang, "Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun Please Shine Down On Us", in the hopes that Mr. Sun will come out tomorrow! Keep your fingers crossed!

OooOOOooo BLECK!!!!!

On Friday, the Adom classroom was a scientific laboratory. With help from our counselor Kira, we created Oobleck, which is a suspension of cornstarch and water that can behave like a solid or a liquid depending on how much pressure you apply. Try to grab some in your hand and it will form a solid ball in your palm just until you release the pressure, then it will flow out between your fingers. Many of our Adom teams friends waited and watched to see just what happened when they mushed their hands in, but soon, green Oobleck was all the rage! Our friends took some time to think about Oobleck in a more critical fashion as well. We created and answered a page of questions that made us think about what would happen if things were added or changed with the Oobleck.
Our questions were: What happens when you...
Squeeze the Oobleck?
Shape it into a ball?
Bang on the Oobleck?
Put a fork in the Oobleck?
Many of the Adom friends had quite a bit to say about the gooey green slime too!
Matthew- It is like gooey bugs in your mouth! Like bug slime on a frog's tongue!
Jesse- It's gucky and it's fun!
Nathaniel- It's hard, but it's also slimey AND gooey!
Daniel- It is slimey in my hand.
Josh- It is gooey but is feels good!
Avery- It's a sack of yuck and it's a lot of fun!

It's easy to see our science explorers were enjoying this non-Newtonian discovery with as much curiosity as excitement!

Puddles here, puddles there, puddles everywhere!

On Friday at the end of the day both the staff and children emptied the wading pools. The water collected and formed a huge puddle. The children splashed, stamped, ran and believe it or not used the big red shovels to push the water from one end of the puddle, to the other. The children had a great time running back and forth while pushing the water with the shovels.

It was a first for me...I have never had the opportunity to see children play in puddles with big shovels before. What a fun/great idea!

Homemade popsicles on a hot summer day!

Homemade 100% juice popsicles on a hot summer day, was welcomed by all! When Ellen brought them outside for us, she asked the children to please bring back their plastic stick when they were done... So we can make more popsicles next week. Each and every child brought back their plastic stick. Thank for remembering, next week I think grape pops are on the menu.

And the fun continues!

Today was another fun packed, exciting, and Summery day here at TBSCC's summer camp! More new faces joined us on the playground and in the classrooms today for sun, fun, water play and games! The Adom Team welcomed two more friends into the classroom today and new project as well. Today in the Adom Classroom, our team started a large mural/painting project that will continue to be open and added too everyday! We have paint, glitter, feathers, tissue paper, and colored wood shaving to add to our project and hopefully we will find more fun items to add in the new few days! Also, a new toy in the classroom "Block Head" has been a popular attraction. This game involves balancing wood blocks on top of each other, and today Sam P. and Matthew took on the challenge and stacked ALL the blocks! It was another fantastic day, and look forward to what Thursday has in store!

Our First Day!

Today was a very fun, exciting and NEW day here at TBS! New and old faces joined together on the playground to get busy for the first day of camp! Pools, toys, water tables, gardening, and an outside easel were among some of the many fun things to choose from. As well, our inside classes and class names were a bit different today too. While friends were getting acclimated to listening out for their new summer color, wet feet made their way inside to drier grounds and faces opened with surprise discovering the downstairs classrooms. The Adom Team is located in Room 14, the room parallel to the "block room". Upon arrival inside, voices chimed in about how great the room looked all set up as a classroom. Sam P., Avery and Daniel soon were talking about how they had done art projects in the room before! Quickly after, all the prior All-Star friends were reminiscing about the Matzo plates they created in this room with Jay Green's mom, Liz! As soon as dry clothes were on, a hunt began to play, draw, and create with the new games and amenities that are now located in our Summer digs!
