In the door and out the window!

That's right, most of the time people go in a house through a door and out the same way. Today Zach and Noah decided to go in the door and out of the house through the window? They went out the window and crawled forward onto their hands until their feet hit the ground. They also figured out how to do a safe forward roll out the window of the house, by tucking their head.

Thank you Dancing Nancy

 It's hard to believe that today was our last session with Dancing Nancy. Fortunately we still have Shalom Day to look forward to and to share with Nancy. Thank you so much Nancy for working and playing hard with us all year. The children are clearly excited about performing our new dances on the last day of school.  Today they continued to work on regulating their body movements by freezing along with the music. They also had to follow multi-part directions as they practiced their dances. Using the hula hoops is always a hit, and today was no exception. It was great to see all the creative uses of the hoops that the children discovered. Maria and I tried to use them the old
fashioned way but without much
success. We need more practice.

Quiet moments

The Rainbows had a very busy and active morning.  After snack, some of the kids gathered on the rug for a game.  We sang the "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear" rhyme together and acted it out.  Once the teddy bears were tucked up in bed and they finished with: "turn out the light!",  the tired bears quietly rested for a moment.  Each child patiently waited for a quick back rub before we started again.   Maybe one of the Rainbow children will teach this game to you...

Bean Bag Balancing!

Yesterday the Tel Aviv class practiced balancing with Dancing Nancy! We did spins, hops and jumps across the room to practice gross motor balancing and then the bean bags came out! We did lots of different kinds of balancing with bean bags! We balanced on our nose, toes, knees, elbows and our heads. It was very exciting to practice walking with beanbags on our heads. Max and Dylan balanced four bean bags on their heads! it was quite impressive. The Tel Aviv children took ricks and tried a variety of new types of balancing with Nancy. We had a great time!

The children initiated this play when we put on some music. It really got the juices flowing! There is more fluidity in their play with children entering and exiting a group quite smoothly.

Falling Fun with Dancing Nancy!

Today we practiced falling for fall with Dancing Nancy! We fluttered like leaves and read a book that discussed how the seasons change. Everyone even had the opportunity to practice their falls and rolls with Nancy; it was a great way to take risks and practice our gross motor skills. We had such a great time!

We brought out our carefully constructed 3 Dimensional Art and the challenge was to use our bodies to reconstruct the same piece.

Heart of THE movement

Scientist lunch bunch friends had a challenge. Each friend was to take a turn being the heart of the movement. We all had to connect to one another. Being the leader/heart of the movement meant that each friend had to decide how we were to connect. What part of the body to use and the level ~high, low etc.

As one can see they worked cooperatively and moved their bodies in many creative poses.

Musical Chairs With a Twist of Mitzvot

The Unicorns decided to play musical chairs. We started our play with every friend having a chair. We explained that as we circled around the chairs listening to music, once the music stopped we all needed to find a chair in which sit. As we continued our play, listening, circling, and stopping the music one chair would be eliminated each time.
The question became, what could we do as not everyone would have a chair as we continued?

Your children, who are so kind and thoughtful had the following solutions:

1) make room for others, and share the chairs
2) one friend actually offered his chair to another friend
3) one friend said, we can all sit together on the floor

Wow is all one can say. Your children took a competitive game and had fun learning how to share their space and make sure all were happy at the end.

Cooperative Games!

Here are a few games to try at home! Your children have played them in Lunch Bunch...Ask them to teach you how to play!

Balloon Keep Up- Children work together to keep one or more balloons up in the air so they do not fall to the floor. Try playing this game in large space or outside.

Cooperative musical chairs- The goal of this game is to find ways to share (not compete for) the chairs,when the music ends.

Islands- Create a group of "islands," made up of hoops, rings, or carpet squares. Children move around and between the islands while music plays. When the music stops, everyone must find an island. Encourage children to share the islands. For variety ask children to visit a different island each time, or have everyone wearing a certain color go to the same island.

This is a story about Sammy whose father sends him out to buy bread. Sammy didn't feel like walking so he made up a brand new song. "If I were a ???? I would crawl, fly, hop, and swim." Then Sammy remembered about the loaf of bread and he made up a brand new song. "I am glad I am ME !"
