Entrepreneurs in the making ..

Brett and Noah wanted to make a game. They worked together to work on the design. Brett was eager to show his game. After some discussion Noah said that it was not done because they needed to make some rules. The game needed a name ( Hot Lava End) , some rules (only 2 people could play), and a decision needed to be made about how would one win. It was decided that one wins if they get past the hot lava. As the discussion continued they decided they needed dice. They found some foam and a di and proceeded to make their di. 

One game two people. What to do. Noah decided to make his own game and design his di. 

I am thinking these two maybe future designers for a major company. Nice team work, design, and game plan. 

Cheers, It's Shabbat

It was a small group on Friday. Molly, Drew, Noah, Eliza, and
Brett decided to celebrate with a big CHEERS as they
snacked with 2 crackers and water. 

We celebrate in community with laughter, joy, and blessings.

We realized later that today was the last day these children will be together in a classroom at TBSCC. What a gift we have been given to share in this day with them. 

Two Ways to Make ice cream

 
 
Today we made ice  cream 2  ways. Method 1, you put 1/2 cup of milk, 3 Tablespoons of sugar, and a 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla in a ziplock bag. You squeeze out the air and seal the bag with tape. In a bigger bag, you place a layer of ice and cover it with salt. (as the ice melts, drain the liquid and add more ice and salt)You put the ingredient bag in the bigger bag and begin to shake. You shake, and you shake, and you shake and you have ice cream. Then the children put blueberries and or strawberries on top and cooled off. Some of the children thought the ice made the ice cream which was a good prediction!  Method 2, you put your ingredients  in the base of an ice cream maker and  plug in the machine. Both methods were very successful!

Staying Cool

 

A tray of ice , salt, and droppers to color your sculptures was the a great way to cool off on a hot summer day. The children stuck the ice together with salt and pinched the droppers to get color into the dropper  and watched as the color exploded over the ice cubes. 

Tikkun Olam

Noah, Brett, Sam , and Eliza use recycled juice bottles to collect rain water for our garden. First we cut the bottom out of the bottles then put the lid back on, dig a hole, and place the bottle in. We hope to line our garden with these recycled materials to collect rain water to use for our garden. Olam in action.  Now all we need is rain!

                                                                            

Scientists at work

At the child-made stream outside on the playground, Molly picked some leaves and said they were lily pads. Then she wanted some frogs to go them. Molly and Max worked together, putting the pads in the stream and then the frogs on top. But there was one problem. The frogs were sinking the lily pads. Molly and Max worked together to solve the problem. They decided to put two leaves on top of one another and that seemed to work. Science in motion.

Life decisions at 5

Last week Liz asked the Tzahov boys and girls what they would like to be when they grew up.

More Mixing

 

We began the lesson by talking about the importance of  carefully washing brushes. Lily made sure her brush was clean before she tried  a new color.We had containers of blue, red, yellow, and white and then the mixing began. Lizzy said,"When people mix colors, they sometimes don't know what they make." The conversations focused on how to make colors. Hannah noticed that red and white made pink.  Eliza made brown by mixing,"all of the colors."Jared made "purple by mixing red and blue and some white"  Rachel looked at our work and said, "We started with 4 colors and look what we made.

Tikkun Olam תיקון עולם

Tikkun Olam means "repairing the world." The Tzahov children were serious about fulfilling their responsibilty to do their part in repairing the world this week as we focused on this Jewish value during our TBSCC Tikkun Olam Day. Children are natural gardeners- they're curious, they're active, and they love to play in the dirt. Sam, Lily, Sabrina, Harper, Madison, Max and Noah re-plated the entire playground garden and even built a garden sign to go along with it.

Tikkun Olam

Who wants to help plant a garden to help our world? We talked earlier in the week about what kind of plants we could plant. Children came up with many ideas, broccoli, tomatoes, blueberries, carrots, lettuce, and beans to name a few. Some children want to plant flowers too. What do plants need to live?? ( soil, water, and sun)

Eliza and Sam were our first gardeners.

Lily was inspired to dig too. 

Haper was digging too. 

Sabrina carefully looked at the roots.
We loosen the roots by squeezing them to
help them grow strong. 

Maddie was helping the roots too.

Hole has been dug. Ready to plant. 

Cover it up. Make sure the roots are
covered completely along with some of the stems.

good for our garden.

our new plants.
