Science at its best

For pre-school age children the best science is observational and the best observation is found in nature. Today on the playground several children found a bee on top of the wood chips. The bee was alive but not moving very much. Jesse googled pictures of bees on her phone and the children decided that it was a carpenter bee. Several children spent a large part of their outdoor time watching the bee that didn't move. It really was fascinating - not just watching the bee but also watching the children watching the bee that didn't move.
