Etzim Recycles

While we talk about recycling all year long, we have been putting more concentrated learning into recycling this month, as we approach Tu B'Shevat, birthday of the trees!  We've turned our kitchen into a recycling center.  Today we took newspapers from our center, rolled and taped them into tubes, and created a ladder.  Some great teamwork on the rolling in a project directed by Eliana! 

Preparing for the Carnival!

The children enjoyed spending time making the"prizes" for the TBSCC Carnival on Wednesday! The younger children painted rocks with acrylic paint. The Gimmel and Bet Team made bracelets with pipe cleaners and beads!

Mr Sun where are you?

We carried on with our summer fun even without Mr Sun!

We made a delicious tuna noodle casserole for Rosie's Place, made fresh play dough, created framed nature art (this was a big hit last week), play a few games of UNO, at the end of the day we all enjoyed popcorn/pops and stories! What a day!

Looking for Chametz?

In preparation for Passover, the Lunch Bunch children decided to sort out and collect the chametz in the Tel Aviv Dramatic Play Center. They found cookies, pancakes and pizza. Tomorrow we will continues the process of preparing and cleaning for for Passover.

Heave Ho!

Rohan alerted the teachers to three tree stumps just waiting to be moved into our currently being renovated part of our playground. Maria gathered a number of the Kohavim children to help her move the stump to the playground. With a lot of hard work and many audible "heave hos", the first stump made it in. Sasha then followed suit, and with her Tel Aviv students, moved another stump. As we talk to the children about hardwork and the slavery of the Jewish people in the time of Moses, they are actually experiencing what it's like to work hard under the hot sun. Obviously the conditions are very different and sno-cones are readily available but there's nothing like an actual experience to help convey a story.

Tzedakah and Buddy work!

Ezra, Max and Dylan built very detailed cool ships over on the rug with the wooden blocks and magnets. I asked them to come over to make their challah because I had to put it in the oven soon, so it could bake and be ready to take home at the end of our school day. They asked if they could save their ships and made it clear they did not want anyone to touch them. So I suggested to make a sign, stating their wishes. They asked me to do it, as their hands had challah all over them. I then announced to the entire class, "Who would like to make a sign/note for Max, Ezra, and Dylan? Hannah and Eliza immediately raised their hand and said, "ME!" When they came over to the table I asked them, "What do you want the sign to say?" Hannah said, "Save". Then the girls proceeded to take turns writing each letter in the word save. When they were done with the sign they placed it on the ships!

Now that's what I call working together with a partner, taking turns, sharing, teamwork and Tzedakah too! Eliza and Hannah we have one thing to say...THANK YOU!!!!

Music to my ears

On this first snowy day I was informed that not everyone was being welcomed in to the snowman building activity. When I walked over to where the action was, Mia took it upon herself to announce out loud to everyone, "Come join us in making our snowman. All Kohavim children and everyone else out here, come help us." Several other children responded to the rally cry to help build the first snowman of the TBSCC winter season.
