Building Challenge!
The children have been playing with different kinds of building materials, experiencing how the stability of their structures are affected by the ways they put materials together and by the materials they use. Some of the children have become interested in stacking blocks; others build tall structures such as rockets and towers as part of their magnitile and block play. On Monday at our morning meeting we invited the children to become expert tower builders by trying to build the tallest structure they can using foam and/or rectangular wooden blocks. We asked the children..Which blocks do you think are best for making tall towers? Which towers do you think will get the tallest? As the children were busy building towers we engaged the children in breif converstions. We asked them about their structures and then in the context of their play encouraged them to build up. For example...Tell me about your building? Can you add a look out tower? Tell me about the house you are building can you build a roof? Some of the other children were really interested in making a car garage and playground. We did not want to interfere with their focus. Today we discussed strategies for tower building, Charlotte suggested, "Building flat helps blocks stay up." Elias and Josie said, "A lot on the bottom will keep them up." We will continue to facilitate science talks, take photos, sketch structures and encourage the children in the tower challenge!

Lunch Bunch for the Tel Aviv children....
What a day...Lunch, Peace- Out Time, Activities/Free Play and we like to end the day with Outside Play! Peace-Out Time was spent playing with play dough, writing in journals, puzzles and and a friendly game of Zingo. Then most of the children took part in measuring and mixing all the ingredients together to make blue gak. We ended the day with some outside play.

Eating lunch together...
The lunch part of Lunch Bunch was full of smiles and great conversation! After lunch the children are responsible to put their garbage where it belongs, their lunch box back into their backpacks and then they have the opportunity to brush their teeth. Today we all sat around and brushed our teeth together, as we sang... The Brushing Your Teeth Song (Raffi).

Our First Shabbat Together!
At circle time we read Sammy Spider's First Rosh Hashanah, sang our welcome song, picked our first STICK PERSON for next week (very exciting stuff Adam will be our leader for the week), and talked about our hopes for the Jewish New Year. During free play we braided our own challah and had the opportunity to make New Year cards.
We ended the day by gathering together for delicious group Shabbat snack...We said the blessings, sang songs, ate challah and apple cake! It was a wonderful ending to a fantastic and fun first week!
Sasha and I wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Welcome Tel Aviv!
What a day we all had! We started our day with a little outside play! After a short circle we toured the classroom and then we went right to work... to play of course! The children played with puppets, experimented with a variety of magnets, served a delicious meal in the dramatic play center, created buddy art at the easel and last but not least enjoyed a yummy group snack!
Sasha and I can't wait until tomorrow! Thanks for a great day!

Making Pizza Together!
The children worked together to make a delicious lunch! They rolled out the pizza dough, added a little red sauce and sprinkled on some mozzarella cheese. Eli cooked his favorite green pasta, to share with his classmates and friends.
The "Friendly Fruit Salad" took a bit of time to prepare, but it sure was a sight for sore eyes when we were done! It was yummy! The fruits that grow during the summer months are so sweet and juicy!

How do you play with mud?
Adam took charge of the Mud Ship! Guess who he pretended to be? Captain Adam Mud, of course! He sailed the Mud Ship all morning long! Allison decided to take a bath in the mud. She announced, "I am a pig taking a bath in the mud so I don't get a sunburn!" Eliza and Hannah packed mud on big rocks and called them "slippery rocks." Eli made delicious "mud cupcakes."
Everyone had their own ideas as to how to play with the mud! I can honestly say that a good time was had by all!

QUESTION OF THE DAY...
How do you make mud? Eliza, Eli, Allison and Sadie came up with the Mud Recipe! "First you cut open the bags of dirt with scissors. Then add some water. Last you add more water and start to play."
The children filled the ship and sensory table and started to play the day away!

Nemo and Bruce!
Nathan brought Nemo to school yesterday. He could not wait to take Nemo into the pool to swim in the "cool" purple water! Nemo never swam in purple water before. Bruce heard that Nemo was visiting, so he stopped in to say hi. It was quit a reunion!

Celebrating Shabbat on Thursday!
We always enjoy celebrating Shabbat on Thursday ! We make challah, say the blessings and enjoy a special Shabbat snack (challah of course).
Yesterday Sarah asked if we could "decorate bags for the challah we take home?" I looked around the Children's Center for brown bags and could not find them. I gathered paper, markers and staplers put them on the red table and asked, "Do you think we can make our own challah bags with paper, markers and the staplers?" Sarah's response, "Let's cut the paper in half, staple it but leave it open at the top, and then we can decorate it."
Body Art!
The children had the opportunity to use face paint crayons to create designs, pictures, lines and patterns from head to toe! They had a ball drawing on themselves, classmates, friends and the counselors (EMILY was covered with beautiful Body Art).
The children drew on their on their face, arms, legs and belly! It seemed as though the children had an idea in their head as to what they wanted to create, and they went to work! They were so proud of their finished art!

Keeping Cool!
The children that stay for the afternoon program sure know how to keep cool! They spent some time in the Community Room building with magnitiles, listening to stories and drawing from underneath the big tables. The fact that the tables were a little too high did not stop them! Some children found that kneeling was more comfortable and others sat on their bottom when drawing.

TBSCC Band!
After a fun filled day outside at the Bike Rodeo, the children embraced a nice long leisurely lunch together! When lunch was over Hannah, Sarah, Eliza and Eli put on a music show with the instruments. They sang a few of our favorites...Down by the Bay, ABC's etc.
They invited the Bet Team in to join them. The Bet Team had a choice to be part of the show or the audience.

Summer Bike Rodeo #2!
The children had a ball riding their bike or scooter all around the TBSCC parking lot! Because the weather was so hot we took plenty of water breaks and had snack available to the children over in the shaded area. We ended the Rodeo by sitting down all together on the playground, to enjoy a nice ice cold pop!
