my turn, your turn

Learning to wait is a difficult, but important skill that we all need help with from time to time.  In the Shamayim classroom, we practice this when we want a toy that someone else is still using.  We use our words to ask "Can I have that when you are done?"  Then, we have to wait.  We also practice when we are playing a game with a friend.  We take turns and wait until the next person (or people) have his/her turn.

On Friday, we played "my turn, your turn" at circle.  We each started with two magnatiles.  We took turns placing one magnatile at a time onto a base.  Our goals was to work slowly and use patience to create a building without knocking any pieces off.  

The children did a wonderful job following the circle to tell us who "was next".  It was hard to wait for our turn but we did it!!

Today was a day for using our bodies in fun ways.  Keshet children enjoyed climbing up the stairs, balancing on the top, and walking down the other side.  With no railing to hold, it's quite a challenge for a toddler.  Some kids found this to be rather a good way to spend the morning.  Just look at Isabella's expression of delight as she sprung off the last step!  Beyond gross motor development and practice with balance, the kids worked at taking turns - making sure that each child had a turn - and going to the back of the line to wait for her next turn.

Game Day!

Lunch Bunch was spent playing board games, and working on our pyramid displayed in our classroom library. Check it out when you get a chance. At the end of the day we enjoyed a healthy juice pop and then we went outside to play! Thanks for a great day!

patiently waiting...

Yesterday, we built a castle for Shushan. But, this wasn't just any castle. We each had only one block and we had to wait our turn to be called to add our block to the castle structure. At first it was hard to wait. We wanted to add our block immediately and there were a lot of "me now, me now!" However, each time we built our castle, the requests became fewer and we slowly realized that we would all have a turn. We made short castles and tall castles and after our last castle, we took turns, removing one block at a time instead of knocking it down. I was so proud at how patient and careful the Sunshine children were. Patience is a virtue...for sure!!

Cutting, Stirring, and Mixing

The Rainbows helped to make the tuna casserole today for Rosie's Place. At first nobody wanted to help so Nancy started cutting up the cheese at the table. I looked over at her and commented, "Nancy, you're all alone over there." Upon hearing this, Josh exclaimed, "I want to help", as did Sami and then Audrey and Sophie. Soon all the Rainbows were participating in this communal project. They were so proud as they carefully cut and sliced the cheese and butter, and then combined these ingredients into the pot. They patiently waited for their turn when it was time to stir all the ingredients together. Everybody was focused and very interested with each step. We look forward to next month when we will make another casserole.

Chocolate Pudding

Today, the Rainbows helped make instant chocolate pudding. Each child had a turn pouring the chocolate powder and milk, as well as stirring with the whisk. The children watched eagerly as Savita scooped the pudding into individual cups so that each child could enjoy one at snacktime. Some of the kids came with me as I carried the pudding cups to the refrigerator so they would be cold for. The chocolate pudding was a success since most of the kids ate every last drop!

Passing the Baton ~ It's a Relay

 
 
 
 

It was a beautiful day for a TBSCC relay. Sam, Oliver, Matt, Josh, Joshua, Nathaiel, and Jesse stood on their mark waiting and cheering for the runner. The baton was passed on and then they were off and running running running. Soon other class friends joined us. Dylan and Hannah were welcomed into the Kohavim class relay and were cheered onward as well. Such welcoming boys and girls.
