Blessings of a B Minus ~ Dr. Wendy Mogel

Dr. Wendy Mogel is a psychologist and author of Blessings of a Skinned Knee and her latest book, Blessings of a B Minus. Can a B Minus really be a blessing? We all know that we are all unique with different interests and learning styles. As parents, we often want the 'best' for our children. What does that mean? Is it what WE want for our children, playing sports or getting that A, creating that 'perfect' world for them? In listening to the video presentation given by Dr. Mogel, at the URJ conference, which Ellen forwarded, a couple of things resonated with me as parent and educator. One is REALLY appreciating the uniqueness of each child. She offers the following for reflection. "If a child interest/talent is in baking please don't ask him/her to be a doctor. Let's think of our children, as seeds that come in a packet without a label, we can't tell the season in which they will bloom, can't tell the flower they are going to get, but the gift we can give them, is to pull the biggest weeds, provide them with sufficient food and water, a good Jewish education, and STAND BACK, and look what G-d has given us!!! This is not always an easy task~ so this is a great reminder for me as a parent and an educator.
