Trip Down Pumpkin Memory Lane

Today at lunch bunch Teddy Fox said to me, Ms Maria you STILL have not posted our pumpkins.' I, was surprised to hear this as I was certain that I had posted it, knowing how much the children enjoyed the exploration of our different sized pumpkins and the predictions of which pumpkin had the MOST seeds. Well, I took out our classroom BLOG book, and discovered Teddy Fox was right, I had NOT posted our exploration of pumpkins. We had three pumpkins, different sizes. Children compared what was the same and what was different. Some things that were the same, was the color and they all had stems. Some things that were different was the size, and the stems were different lengths, there was dirt on one pumpkin. Then came the 'messy' part. the cutting and pulling out the pumpkins. Some boys and girls loved the sensory experience of squishy mess and others preferred to dig out the seeds w/ a cup. Much  to our surprise the 'small' pumpkin had lots of seeds, about the same size as the bigger pumpkin.
We saved the mushy part of the pumpkin for our pumpkin muffins and used cooked the seeds in the oven. Some girls and boys shared that before they cook their pumpkin seeds they  soak them in salt water. We did not do that, and simply put oil on the seeds and cooked them. They were a bit over cooked but we nevertheless tried them. Teddy Fox did I forget any other details you would like me to mention??
