Self regulation is a game

Today at circle we played a game called what's missing. I took 5 items from around the classroom and showed them carefully to the children. I had a red plastic strawberry, a gray sheep, a white car, a brown Lincoln log and a green scissors. The rules of this game are as follows:
1. Do not call out the answer.
2. Raise your hand and wait to be called on
3. When you are called on you must say the answer right away
This is very hard. I am pleased to announce that I was only able to stump the children one time. They were able to follow the rules and show their ability to regulate themselves in waiting their turn. This skill will always be important. Stay tuned because the game is going to get harder with more objects.

  1. What a great game, Sauci! It can be modified to fit any age/ability group...maybe we will try it with some of our shabbat materials tomorrow!! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Those are tricky rules for preschoolers- and good skills to learn! What a fun way to do it. :)
