Friday Routines

For the Levana class, part of our getting settled into school is learning new routines, and remembering them from week to week.  Every Friday we have an extra special daily schedule to prepare for and celebrate Shabbat that is different from every other school day.  We start preparing for Shabbat in our classroom, and we conclude in the sanctuary where we sit with the whole school to sing and learn with our rabbis and song leaders.

Today, like every week, we begin by making our challot.  Here, Tina shows Hayley and Sydney how to make beautiful braided bread.

Next, we use a variety of materials, like stickers and markers to decorate bags that we use to bring our challot home.

This week, Graham was our Shabbat Helper.  He helped light the candles, bless the wine, and hold the challah during circle.  Each week we have a different student help lead us in our Shabbat rituals.

And of course, our favorite part of Shabbat is enjoying our special snack of delicious grape juice and challah.

Shabbat Shalom!
