What do you think is growing here?
The Kohavim children had been walking by plants near the window for days. Today, the teachers asked what do you think is growing here. The children had many ideas: kale, salad, lettuce. After morning meeting, Lily took a magnifying glass to closely examine the plant. She decided to make an observational drawing using colored pencils. She noticed the leaves had wiggly edges and used green and purple to represent the colors of the plant. Zack was inspired to do his own observational drawing and then referenced a non-fiction book about plants. He noticed our plants look similar to a lettuce plant in the book, but the edges of the leaves were different. Stay tuned to find out how the Kohavim children use their detailed observational drawings and non-fiction references to identify the plants that are growing in our classroom.

Impressive to see how they are using non-fiction reference materials to do research. What a critical skill to have!
