The children and I were busy during lunch bunch last Friday. Here is one story and the conversation we had:
While eating lunch, we found ourselves talking about our inner body parts and how they work and why is it important to eat nutritious food. Elias shared with us that he really likes raspberries and Adam told us that carrots are his favorite. The children were trying to find which of their body parts contained bones by touching and observing which part is harder and which part is softer. For example their forehead vs. their stomach . Noah said he felt his forehead and it was hard and Josh felt his tummy and it was soft. Good observations!
Then we learned that our left brain controls our right side of the body and the right brain controls our left side of body. The children experimented with this by lifting their right arm first then lowering it back down, then lifting their left arm and lowering it down.
Lastly, we talked about our breathing and how we use our lungs for that. Each child put their hands on their own ribcage and took a deep breath in and out. I pointed the out fact that when we take a deep breath in our rib cage expands and when we exhale the air out our rib cage recoils.
This was a very interesting exercise and the children stayed focused throughout the entire activity. Good job!
