When we sit down together at lunch bunch, there's lots that's happening besides just eating. It's a time for conversation, socializing, spending time with friends. The children and I chat about our day at school, our families, what we like or don't like to eat. We count how many of us might have yogurt or bananas at the table. They love to see what I have in my lunch bag, especially my Dora, bird, spaceship or fish sandwich container. The children see what others enjoy eating and often ask if they can have some. It might be pretzels or goldfish or a juice box. Some children are under the impression that I prepare their meal so I often have to suggest that we ask Mom or Dad if they can have that something in their lunch box next time.
