Meet the Kohavim and Haifa Friday chefs. Our first cooking activity was banana pancakes. The ingredients needed were flour, baking powder, water, and bananas. There was one small problem. There were 6 boys and not everyone wanted banana pancakes. What should we do? Jacob thought it would be a good idea to make a list and count how many children wanted banana pancakes and those who did not. He quickly got some paper, drew a banana pancake on one side, and asked me to write "banana pancakes" and "NO banana pancakes."
Once we identified who wanted banana pancakes and who did not, we still had our problem or "predicament" what were we going to do so everyone felt respected? Well, we could just make pancakes with bananas on top and those that did not like bananas could eat around it, those that did not want bananas could wait to the next cooking day to eat, or we could make two different kinds. We decided to make two different batches. Luckily, we had another teacher, Betty, who comes to help us on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Ellen came in and we asked her if she wanted any, and what kind she wanted. Jacob was careful to put her on the right side, with bananas. So it was now 5 who wanted pancakes and 2 without. More people wanted the bananas. They were a tasty treat. We have many other recipes to try out so stay tuned!
