It all started with the "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus on CD! You may recall the children taking turns listening and modelling the teacher role, and reading to their listening audience. We have been very curious about the author. The teachers did not have answers to the questions so we asked the children how we could find out? Some children said we could look on the computer. When guided towards other ways to gather information, we asked if they would like to write Mo Willems. The teachers helped the children record their comments.
1) "Thank you for your books. I like your books."
2) "I like the books. They are funny. I like the large print in Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus."
3) "How did you write, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus?"
4)"How did you think about the story Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, and The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog. I liked it when the Pigeon went crazy and the feathers fell off."
5) "I love Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus."
6) "I liked Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late. I liked it when he said "I am not tired."
7) "I liked it when the Pigeon said "Can I drive the bus.? I think that is funny."
Then the children were curious about and asked:
" How did you decide how many pages are going in your books?
"How long does it take you to write your books?
"How long does it take you to draw the pictures?
"How did you learn to draw?
As we were getting ready to mail letter, children said we need to ask him to PLEASE WRITE BACK.. We hope he does.
In our exploration of these books we are discovering many things about the illustrations on the jacket, pages, common focus in books.. so please stay tuned as we continue our journey...
