Jewish Rituals for Thanksgiving

Giving thanks has always been an important part of Judaism, from reciting blessings before and after meals to thanking God for the creation of the world and our many blessings in it. There are many ways that we can add a meaningful Jewish component to our family and school celebrations. Here are two Passover customs we can incorporate into our Thanksgiving:

Instead of taking wine or juice out of our glasses like we do during our Passover Seder, at your Thanksgiving celebration, ask everyone to add a drop of his or her own juice to a pretty goblet that you pass around. Talk and think about ways to can help the hungry people in the world before or during this ritual

During the Passover Seder we recite “let all who are hungry come and eat,” and it is a custom to invite someone to our Seder who doesn’t have any other place to go. Invite someone to celebrate Thanksgiving with you who doesn’t have anywhere else to go and would otherwise spend the holiday alone.
