Estimating!

How Many Bears Do You See?

That was the question of the day. In circle we asked the children what does estimating mean? Aden was quick to respond with, "Taking a guess." All the children were asked to come over to take a look at the teddy grahams (in a clear jar) at some point during the course of the morning. Then they were ask to estimate/guess how many bears are in the jar. Most of the children took their time looking at the bears, they held the jar in their hands, turned it around looked at it from a few different angles, and some even picked up the jar and viewed the bears from the bottom up. Everyone wrote down the number of bears they thought were in the jar. The final step was the best part, we counted them and then gobbled them right up! Delicious!

In case you were wondering there were 84 teddy grahams in the clear jar. It was amazing to us how close many of the children came to the actual number in the jar!
